Air Wagner

Right coast Jerry. At least left coast Jerry was still on the ground.

Also, do you have to be a dooshcanoe to fly a cabin class twin Cessna?

I freaking hate people who don’t get their clearances on the ground. I don’t care if you depart vfr and activate it in the air later, but I ain’t reading you a full route clearance halfway across the country while you’ve been flying the wrong way from the first fix for the last 30 miles.

It's honestly a PITA to fly and copy a clearance at the sane time also. I'd much rather make the phone call (even though tracking down the phone number has gotten a lot more cumbersome than just calling up 1800wxbrief) and getting the clearance on the ground.

Like it’s fine if you’re in parts of the US where you can generally expect direct or a fairly simple routing to a STAR. It is an entirely different story when trying to leave the most congested airspace in the world.

There are some corporate guys who try to take off and pick up the clearance in the air to avoid ATC delays. I am NOT one to attempt to do such things.

We made it a rule to only pickup clearance on the ground. Way too many chances to screw up while trying to maintain VFR and going 300 knots.

I’ve had them do that with really low ceilings and I’m too busy to give them their clearance. Enjoy scud running in your Challenger I guess.

The video of the guy trying to do that out of BFI going to Greece in the Global is both hilarious and infuriating.

Cumbersome? It’s in the AFD and easy to find in EFBs. Don’t have the same ease in your system? The direct phone call avoids the three-party triologue among you, FSS, and ATC. I thought the old way was much more cumbersome.
