Heard that they are selecting 15 positions for the next class and they will be internals.

I heard that AA has selected 6-7 Envoy dispatchers from the pool for the February class. A couple of thoughts on this:

Would the dispatchers at PSA and Piedmont (the 2 other wholly owned regional subsidiaries of AA) feel like bastard step children if this is true?

Does management at PSA and Piedmont actively go out and promote their dispatchers to American mainline, and other mainline carriers? If not, why not?

Quote from the PSA website:
This is the start of a career you can be proud of from day one.
ROBERT ISOM, PRESIDENT OF AMERICAN AIRLINES

Really, Mr. Isom?

I know for a fact that there are some very qualified dispatchers at PSA, and assume there are at Piedmont as well. Why would American select only dispatchers from Envoy? They risk alienating the other two groups, and ultimately make it more difficult for those airlines to hire dispatchers who hope to be able to move on to the mainline carrier.

The dispatch group at both PSA and Piedmont directly affect the customer experience at American mainline, and have had a part in the success of AA. Shouldn't they be acknowledged for their efforts?

Mr. Isom - follow through on your words!

Envoy dispatchers benefit from having the same dispatch system and being based in DFW. It is overall much easier to train someone who knows the system versus someone who does not.

Do PSA and Piedmont have a letter of agreement like Envoy has with American for a semi flowthrough for dispatchers?

We could make the same argument about any regional that does flying for a major, no?

No agreement.

American put out a job posting for Sector Manager yesterday. I can’t imagine why...
Rumor is that the coming Dispatch class comprises mostly of (or all) sector managers. I feel that chances are very slim this time around. But, I am hoping there will be another class soon.

Obligatory look at the dispatcher pay spreadsheet stickied to the top response inserted here.................

The dispatcher pay scale here does not apply. They are what they call a level 5 management job.

See pic attached level 5. Usually they start at the minimum range...

Half Sector. I’d bet on no other classes for a while.

I know five year guys on the dispatch floor at AA that make almost as much as what this shows the sector manager topping out at? The only people the company can attract to this position are mid level managers from elsewhere who have never dispatched but happen to have a certificate. Amazingly enough, six sector managers are in this next class, and I believe its going to be a 15 person class. I am not sure yet what the remaining distribution is outside the sector managers. One other note is that a sector manager works 4-5 days per month with no overtime more than the any of the dispatchers covered under PAFCA scope.

Bottom line is that the company has made the Sector Manager position a very unattractive position for the people who actually should be doing the job, and has attracted a bunch of people who at most other carriers wouldn't be anywhere near this position. If anyone on here is seriously considering putting in for this position hoping to break into AA, don't. If you want another entry level position, look at MX routing or FPS, which give much better experience.

Any talk of those positions becoming unionized like they are at DL and UA?

No. That was a one time deal. Actually two time deal. It happened at the previous contract signing and this recent signing. If you were here when contract was signed you were given the option to join the union. After that, anyone that was hired was not offered to join.

It's always possible they get added into the union with the next contract. UA didn't have them as union members until the merged UA/CO contract was negotiated.

Highly unlikely. They were union prior to the merger on the airways side. It's not coming back. The current Management is enjoying the position and control they have. But you never know.

The IOC Director is a non union position, so even if the sector managers went union the current management still has the control you mention. The biggest problem is the Company is abusing the heck out of the sector managers right now, and trying to use them to micromanage the operation. What has resulted is very poor operational decisions being made, which is affecting the companies performance numbers, and low morale on the floor which has created added stress and actually has cost the company more money than what they saved by keeping the Sector managers out of the union. This is why 6 sector managers are self demoting, this is why 1 self demoted a year ago, this is why no one from the dispatch group is putting in for the position. Furthermore, a couple of other sector managers have taken other positions in management. You cant run an operation with the type of turnover that they are seeing in that position.

I see this playing out in one of three ways. One is that the PAFCA negotiating committee on the next contract is able to negotiate the position back into the scope coverage. The second is that with the abuse, high workload, and stress the current sector managers are feeling, they could be pushed hard enough to where they themselves sign PAFCA cards and vote in an NMB election for Union Representation. The third is that you get the butt kissing type people in the positions hoping to earn promotions and work their way up. We shall see how this plays out.

Any talks of another hiring class? I'm looking to hire internally but i haven't seen a single post in months.
