AA Hiring

The hearsay I’ve heard is that the hiring pool is good for 6 months, so I imagine they’ll probably just select from those that interviewed a couple of months ago. I could be wrong... I personally hope I’m wrong.

Yeah, it’s too close to start the hiring process from the beginning again. You’ll still get the same applications with probably similar people getting the interview so it would make sense to just go back through those that interviewed pick the next group of hires.

In fact, if you're in the pool you would know by now. One way you know you are not in the pool is, did you get a TBNT? Sorry.

So everyone's been swimming in the pool but now that Dallas is down in the 20s, it's a little too cold, and time to call everybody inside?

Any word on a January/February class?

Very much in the works. But not sure how many will be hired as there are currently 6 to 9 sector managers that are contemplating stepping down due to new work rules on their end which increases the amount of days worked by approx 20. And no pay increase. Not sure about the current pool as well with that timing. Could be a whole new round of interviews as well. But it's in the works now.

Wouldn't a January/February class mean taking candidates out of the pool or self-demotions? A new posting wouldn't likely go out until after the new year. By the time a new posting went out and interviews took place, it would likely be March or April before a class realistically starts.

There are nine sector managers on the dispatch seniority list right now that are eligible to self demote when there is a dispatch opening. None have dispatched for AA and some have not ever dispatched. Those that have dispatched at other airlines have not done so for a long time. I think that alone will discourage a few from self-demoting. I think if it gets anywhere near 6 to 9 that actually do put in their intent to self demote, management will step in and offer some incentive for them to not self-demote.

Are these sector positions covered under a contract? Does there schedule follow the Dx schedule pattern?

Not having dispatched for AA let alone anywhere should be good reason to prohibit a self demotion.

Pre-merger and pre-JCBA, L-AA had sector managers that were management and L-US had a similar position which was coved under their union contract. In the JCBA, the union was not able to keep the L-US position which went away after contract signing. The hope was that in future contracts, the sector managers would brought into the union. At the time of signing, the sector managers on property at the time were offered the chance to join the union. Most took the offer. It was a one time deal so any sector managers hired after are not on the seniority list. They were not required to become dispatch qualified to take the offer.

Nobody applies for promotions from dispatch to management. One reason for that is better job security in the union. One provision in the JCBA was agreed to that allowed dispatchers who became managers to stay on the seniority list and to come back to dispatch if there was an opening should the management job not work out.

The sector managers work a very similar schedule to the dispatchers. Most management groups do not get this same benefit. The change in sector manager work rules was said to be because of this to make things equal across management. This has led to some of them contemplating self-demotion when the next round of hiring occurs.

For dispatchers hired after JCBA and possibly even some hired before JCBA, it will not be particularly welcome news if many of the sectors on the list do self-demote as they will get to slot in ahead of them based on their seniority date even though they will have less AA dispatching experience. They will not have the required two years dispatching to be eligible for working international desks which could create some awkward scenarios during the yearly schedule bid until they get that experience.

Just found out there will be a class starting Feb 25th. They are going to draw from the existing hiring pool of candidates already interviewed so there will be no posting for this. Also, the company has confirmed some Sector Managers will self demote and be part of this new hire class as well.

Do you know how many are expected to be drawn from the pool for this class?
