AA Hiring Aug 2021

People are already doing their background checks and fingerprints. If you haven't gotten a call yet I'm afraid you're out of luck for this one.
You're probably right, but background checks could eliminate some still, which could create an opening for others. I'm not gonna write it off until I see "not selected".

I heard that AA is now requiring all new hires to get vaccinated, we will see how that will fly. Most of the new hires only have 1 year of dispatch while us veterans got over looked for the past decades.

Not completely done, they are looking at a possible April class as of now. I know multiple people who are have been told it’s a possibility that April Clas

not sure this is true in terms of XP, I know close to 1/3 of the group and they have all over 2 years, which isn’t a lot but it’s plentywhen coming from regionalsthat are doing 40-50+ releases a day ontop.
Also, it seems after extended time at regionals that is a flag for majors.

Honestly there's no telling what exactly they were looking for. What they look for is ever changing depending on how the class before performed seems like.

We were told during the group interview that they weren't exactly sure how many they would hire within the next year and that there is a high probability that quite a few of us will be put in a call-back pool. So, I suspect most of us waiting on any news will be hanging out there after everyone else is screened. Just a hunch...

Another class in April? I know for sure there's a class in December AND February. Sounds like they won't be hiring for a really long time after this.

From our end, if you not in the "approval list" you will not go. As far from my experience they always let all the new rookies go into AA (1 year or less experienced). It just comes down to political and preference to be honest. I known people are the ideal candidate but get blocked from going forward due to the list.

There are around 170 dispatchers over the age of 55 of which a majority are over age 60. The airline is near pre-covid flight numbers with more international flying (more desks needed) being added. Changeover to a new flight planning system is planned for the end of next year. While new hire classes and training will likely take a pause during the changeover at the end of next year, it will likely pick up soon after as more retirements will occur over the next 5 to 10 years and international flying is added.

you have to remember you’re competing for less spots than what AA is looking for. If AA wants 60, then you need to figure that 10-12 spots will go to Envoy, another 4-5 to PSA, Piedmont maybe 2-3 (if that). That’s 1/3 of the class from AA regionals.

If you think you’re getting overlooked, maybe jump to Envoy which people have said is down nearly 25 from pre-Covid. Envoy has a direct feed into AA and from the postslast class filled nearly 1/5 of the class.

Yea Dec and Feb are known classes now. People at multiple regionals, have been told there maybe a April Class. They have been told this by managers and have not had any interaction with AA. So unless different managers at different regionals are communicating telling people about a 3rd class, I would assume AA is atleast looking that possibility.

Dec/Feb classes will both be trained on SABRE then go back for FlightKeys. I’d also assume to see more retirements from AA of people at or near ret

LMFAO yeah about that… not taking that pay cut.

the pay cut would be temporary andthe move would likely help you move to a major with the # of people envoy has pushed out to majors this year alone. But if you’re not open to trying something new and being stuck where you are then good for you, just don’t be the sad one on the thread saying you’re stuck

I really wish this myth would go away. I know two people that went to AA with 15+ years at their regional. I know of one who had over 15 years and went to Delta years ago. Being at a regional for an extended amount of time isn't a big deal, being there for a long time and failing the basic tests these airlines give you is a red flag.

Uhhh... I didn't say I'm stuck, sir, nor am I "sad", but okay. There are plenty of places that would like to hire experienced individuals with ETOPS and international experience and I certainly plan to pursue one of those in due time. I am personally just fine where I'm at, but I'd like to pursue better options like everyone else. I know what my experience and time is worth. I will not be moving to a regional from dispatching 747s and 767s internationally because 1) that's a giant pay cut as mentioned before and 2) that would look absolutely absurd on a resume. So, sorry I will not be taking your advice. What I was saying is that it is discouraging that those with experience are basically being told by people such as yourself and those who think like you, "you have too much experience so you're more than likely untrainable or stagnant" which isn't a fair assumption at all. If that were the case, a lot of us wouldn't be where we are currently. Not everyone on these threads are sitting at regionals waiting on their big shot at a mainline stardom.

I had over ten years of experience when I made it to a major. For those that make it sooner - great! If you're happy where you are at now and don't want to leave - also great! For those who haven't made it yet and do want to move up - keep trying and don't give up.
