9E Announcement

But telling them that their actions had implications outside of their student counsel ran airline is certainly appropriate.

That student counsel ran airline does a lot of things better than most airlines. If you compared QOL issues with fellow pilots instead of marginalizing them you'd see why even though pay is low, people still want to go there.

What??

I wasn't offering my insight into how bargaining works, just how I don't get pilots going after pilots.

You are, you just don't realize it.

To just say, "oh well, our deal sucks, no big deal" misses the point of how the bad the deal your pilot group is for other pilot groups.

I understand you've never been in the room negotiating with the company so it's hard to understand how impactful this can be, but other management groups will argue about trying to raise rates and say, "skywest pilots just signed in a pay cut, and they're still hiring, WHY should we pay you more?"

If you're not outraged, you're not understanding how this is going to affect you down the road.

Sure, I'm sure the OO crews that I jumpseat on quite often would love to tell me how great their quality of life is when they're being forced to fly 85+ hours a month. Sorry, not sorry, I don't care what your QOL is out west, the crews out east for OO are being ran ragged...

But whatever, this isn't an OO discussion, its about a W/O carrier...

I'm out west flying 95+ hours in October. What QOL :P

I literally never said this is no big deal. I said it's already done, nothing I can do to stop what happened. I'm not hunting down pilots and making my time at cruise miserable by complaining about work work work work. I tried my best to get that thing turned down and it went through. Now it's my fault I don't go to work with a piss poor attitude? Yeah, I'd rather not buy that kool-aid.

If you could explain to me how me going to work outraged is going to solve anything, I'm all ears. I vote no and still get blamed by other airline pilots. Mind boggling logic in here.

There will always be some people who vote NO just so they can complain about everything that happens for the next X of years of the contract.
and
There will always be some who vote YES if it gave them $1 extra an hour.

Hope I didn't come off in a way that I was trying to argue with anyone. I'd be happy to have any of you in a jumpseat and talk sports/family/hobbies or whatever! I'm happy for you guys making some more money, new flying and sounds like a great QOL over there!

Assuming it gets passed, I am too...

I think it will. I think it would be foolish not to. You raise the bar. Then other regionals raise the bar in 6-12 months once their classes stop filling up. Then in another 18-24 months the bar must be raised at the regionals again because the bar at the LCCs has been raised now too. So then a regional airline raises the bar again... And then maybe one day someone up high at mainline will think, "Gosh, we are paying these regional pilots a premium to fly the regional jets... Maybe we should just pay mainline pilots to fly these regional jets and have complete control over our product".

In a perfect world anyway...

Derp derp if they have to pay legit wages the business model won't sustain derp derp.

QX and Skywest are good benchmarks to show that there will always be people that want to settle for less in this industry, and that the whipsaw isn't dead.

I would say that people who live here:
LAX
ORD
PDX
PHX
PSP
SEA
SFO
SLC
TUS
COS
DEN
FAT
BOI
SAN

and don't live here:
JFK
LGA

would disagree with you. But hey, its all about the pay!

That'll probably change with today's announcement. Depending how it goes there will prob be an NYC base in 18 months.

What announcement? NYC at SkyMidWest???

In the last 6 weeks, OO has been allowed to purchase 30 175SC's, operated for Delta, to replace the ASA CR7 flying. So much for being the "gold standard" of Delta Connection, especially when it comes to NYC, where, an outstation based operation is 100% a disaster in the making (ask GoJet how that worked)
