Unless you're looking at one of the bigger engine Mooneys, you're not going to see a 30kt gain over a 177rg.

Ah ok I should have specified the 177 I was looking at is fixed gear. Cruises at about 120-125kts

It really depends on what you’re going to do with it. If you are just going to beebop around the NJ countryside inside a 200nm circle, then the 177 will be fine.

If you have places to go or people to carry, then that’s different.

Here she is last December in the 76 RG, wish I would of remembered the power settings he had dialed in. Usually when we are going to a photo site we cruise at 23 squared and end up 135ish Indicated at 10.1 GPH

That’s pretty good. I cruise about 22”/2300 and get 11.6ish
130 true.
