2023 Christmas Meltdown competition entries…

I’m predicting an El Niño fueled ice storm in the entire upper left corner of the country that tanks AS entire operation and ensures that I’m stuck in the training hotel a big chunk of whatever Christmas break we get

Well the ice storm was in PDX last year, so that certainly means it is SEA's turn this year

The weather geeks seem to think November in the Pacific Northwest will be a rainy November, but normal/below-average precip. through the end of the year.

The Sargasso coast on the other hand... Atlanta might ice, or hell, a Christmas hurricane for Miami (prob. not, but hey we're makin' odds here).

Por que no los dos

Reasonable question, however both would seem to be a meteorological anomaly, at least anecdotally speaking. I'm not a meteorologist, but western OR seems to get a lot more ice storms, since we are so marginally "snowy" anyway, anytime Jack Frost comes to the PNW. It generally seems to come along on the back/immediately following a wider PNW snow dump. It's been about 10 years since the last good one, but my folks were basically stuck at home for several days. I remember another one in college maybe 20 years ago now, where I couldn't even crack the ice layer over the snow layer, burying my car in the driveway. I remember getting into an indoor BB gun fight with my roommates, and we shot one of the windows out like idiots :) The one last December was but a small hiccup comparatively, though I did almost eat **** trying to walk to dinner (in EUG) from the in laws house

I blame the idiots in Eastern Oregon. They send all the cold air through the gorge and messes everything up.

That happened last year over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I was stuck in the training hotel too! 😂

I hope you guys stocked the fridge up first. I won't say hotel names, but did they ever fix the fire hazard that was the patio propane BBQ? They tried to shut it down the last time I was there, and people kept grilling anyway.......it was like one blowtorch, one non firing flame holder, and the whole bottom had disintegrated on top of the propane tank, allowing hot embers from the rest of the metal parts to fall down and mingle with the tank. I always just watched it in wonderment, with a beer in hand, waiting for the explosion

oh yeah! Both her and I were smart enough to do so prior so it worked out.

As far as that bbq goes though, no. We left that hotel in March and it was still exactly as you described. Fortunately nothing ever did come of it however most the hotel did have to evacuate one night in January around 0100 into the freezing temps when someone decided to burn the food they were cooking and the fire alarm went off. Hahaha

So a standard Tuesday evening in El Centro. Sounds like a blast.

I’m going to nominate SJI for thanksgiving and Xmas. Lots and lots of open time through both holidays and not many reserves available.
