121 future with vaccine

Most businesses only require a mask when you are inside, and not eating. I'm not arguing the actual effectiveness of this, but like most people, they will adhere to the minimum required. I think the bigger concern is that a large swath of the population views a mask, that is oftentimes nothing better than a handkerchief, as some form of an invincibility cloak. And you are correct, some of those people think the same thing when they expose the nose, or wear one of those bizarre amazon ordered respirator masks. It's really just an exercise in how little people actually understand about life.

Another aspect of this question, and I’m pretty sure it’s been discussed before, is once business/leisure passengers can return to flying, will they?

Some business travel, I suspect, will never return. They will have gone so long using VTC systems that they might not need the last minute, pricey business class ticket to seal the deal.

As for the recreational traveler, “I’ll never fly XXX again because they screwed me out of my ticket in April.” Some/many (idk) didn’t have the cash to actually refund the money, but when people started losing jobs, those folks needed their money back.

I kind of liken it to some car dealers these last few months. They ran out of new cars (when production was shutdown), so they started pushing used. When the quality used supply started drying up, dealers started paying premium prices for used inventory and low interest loans. 0-2% for up to 84 months is the longest I saw. So, Dealer X gets Mr. Smith in the door to look at a pre-owned 6000 SUX. Smith really wanted the new model, but will have to settle for a used one. So Smith leaves with his new-to-him 6000 SUX after signing on the line for 20% over what he would have paid a few months ago. With it amortized over 6 years, his over-priced car’s loan principle won’t come close to meeting the depreciated value for years, if ever. Smith finds this out 12 months later when he returns to Dealer X to finally get the next MY 6000 SUX. In addition to handing over his car, he has $6000 in negative equity because the pre-hysteria values of used cars have returned. Smith is furious, and tells all of his friends and social media contacts how Dealer X hosed him. This dealer, and some airlines, are killing their relationship with consumers with how they act now. One difference is that Dealer X didn’t get billions in taxpayers’ money, either. How these companies handle this crisis with their employees and their consumers will determine the success of their recovery.

As the numbers stand now, you have a 1 in 50 chance of having a confirmed case. Not huge odds so I'd say you've been fortunate this far. Death isn't the only bad thing about corona. I'd also like to not be severely sick and take months to recover. There are a lot of people that are hospitalized that live.
So what does it mean when I’m one of thousands in a, “high risk” job and most of us haven’t gotten Corona? None of my friends who have had direct exposure to Covid working in hospitals day after day week after week of all this have had it either.

I’m not arguing masks. I think they help slow the spread. But I also think that people have forgotten the original intent of all of this... We were trying to slow the initial spread to give hospitals time to prepare. They’re prepared. Let’s put a mask on (hopefully not while driving by ourselves in a car or while outside ) and go about our lives.

Oh, well that just means they aren't idiots. I've been operating in some of the high risk areas since all this crap kicked off in January. I followed the CDC and prevailing medical recommendations, such as wearing a mask, social distancing, washing my hands, etc. Knock on wood, it has worked quite well.

From what I see in the news though, some of the idiots that don't believe in science and went about ignoring it have had some issues though. Probably sucks to be them!

Let them enjoy their respiratory distress is the modern “let them eat cake” I suppose.

I love how Americans don’t see this as their problem until it happens to them (and some I know, who have even lost family members to this, still don’t believe it’s real!). So much for taking the easiest, simplest, stupid precautions to keep people safe.

What if they see it as the CDC is reporting? I understand this is very dangerous to some.

Watched an interview with Bill Gates [gasp!] the other day, good discussion on the required efficacy of vaccines and percentage of population that needs to take it in order to be successful. Both were surprisingly lower numbers than I'd thought to make it a somewhat successful vaccination so if people step up we'll get through this quicker. Several will be in phase 3 trials shortly, so progress is being made. Next summer will still be slow, but if we get our collective crap together 2022 will be the Summer of George.

I don't know how to explain that you need to care about other people, part whatever this is.
I do my part and I’m very happy to. It’s crucial to the community. I have older relatives and I feel that’s owed to them. I think we need to start examining the FACTS. The facts on covid, the facts on police brutality, the facts on racism, the facts on riots. I say we examine the facts and go after the offenders with vengeance.

Like others stated, I hope it means the precautions are working. The people working in the hospital's should be the best about taking precautions. I'd equate it to less 121 accidents vs private pilots (maybe even student pilot).

The facts are all there, you just gotta be open to listening and comprehending of said facts.

Very good info in that interview snippet. I really appreciate his global view.

Pilots, at my company, still have a 400% higher COVID infection rate than the next leading division.

We are invested, more than anyone, in getting herd immunity to save the industry. Only @Derg could denigrate what is a huge sacrifice and benevolence from the flight ops division. :)
