Academy Basics/Terminal Class - 9/8/08

I thought I said that :) Randy, Russ, and one other guy I didn't recognize are the leads in my packet
whops, i was just scanning the post and missed that part. randy was my instructor for basics. hes a really good guy, and really knows a lot the other guy might be a guy by the name of Tom (forget his last name, he looks like col. sanders). one thing about the basics course is that since its geared towards teaching fss, enroute, and terminal, there are a lot of things that you dont really need to know. i remember one of the questions on the first block test was something like; how many positions are there for flight service"

From the packet: Report to Academy Headquarters Building Room 128 at 7am. Students need to use the far left "visitors" lane when entering the MMAC on the first day and plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early to assure timely access to the facility.

Classes end 12/3

I just secured a spot in the Sept 8th class and have made my airline reservation but running into problems with securing housing. Anybody out there have a two bedroom looking for a roommate????

Re: Academy Terminal/Basics Class - 9/8/08

I'm currently at the Academy and staying at the Fairways at Moore. My roomate is finished 9/6, so I'll have an extra room. It's a fully furnished two bedroom apartment, $60/day ($30 each). You'll be hard pressed to find a place cheaper or nicer.
Included is free golf at the Moore Golf and Athletic Club (my apartment is actually on the golf course). The Fairways is also on the Academy shuttle route which is a plus. Please let me know if anyone's interested.

If you don't have a roommate yet, is it too late I just found out I'll be in your class 2 days ago!

Just got a room at Mansions South, thanks to a nice lady named Betty. You rock Betty :rawk: Now I'm just debating whether or not to drive it or fly it 21 hours is a long time in the car alone! Anyone doing a meet and greet on sunday before school?

Several months without a car is long time too.

I met Tom while I was in Basics....nice guy with lots of experience. I'd say most of the instructors I've met really care about the students and will do everything in their power to see that they succeed. Your lead is the most important person in Basics IMO. Well, that and how much you're willing to study, etc.
BTW I'm going to Buffalo Wild Wings off I-35 for the fights Saturday. I went there (I think it's off exit 116 - the 19th St exit) for the last fight and it was packed. We got there an hour early and had the last table in the place!

Qustion for everybody I just got my fedex package in the mail for our class. I thought insurance paperwork would be included. Did your guys fedex stuff have health insurance info. I'm wondering if they left mine out since I was kinda in a hurry mode. Got the phone call on Wens. got my fedex overnighted on Thurs. Just curious if I'm missing something or if we will be filling it out on monday. Thanks see you all soon

I didn't get any either and my FOL wasn't rushed. I believe we go over that on Monday the first day.

Roger I won't worry about it then. One less thing to try and figure out. I've been bored for the last year so this is kinda fun scrambling around trying to go to class with 5 days notice.

I finally made it to OKC, I decided to drive straight through. 29 hours with a one hour power nap was really fun. :sarcasm:

The Isola Bella is really nice. The security guard says it is in a good area and probably one of the nicest places in OKC. If you can find a roommate, $35 bucks a day is a pretty good deal.

Anyone interested in watching some football today. I might go to Buffalo Wild Wings and watch the 49ers vs Cards?

Finally made it to OKC, Mansions South is not the greatest but it'll serve the purpose... a place to stay! Seems kind of far from the airport but haven't done a dry run yet... and still looking for a Walmart/Target??
