Aloft, if you want an adventure, my last survey job covered all 50 states and PR. Decent salary and good per diem while on the road. long trips though, and based in Jax, FL. PM me if you want more details.

I'd still get the CFI certs though. Good luck in your job hunt.

You could try Scenic/GCA. Last I heard they needed people to fly the 207's. Hiring most likely will be slowing down for the Otters.. but its worth a shot to put your application in.

I'll tell you with your attitude on here I would find it very surprising if anyone would go out of their way to help you get a job.

You come across as a know it all and a I'll argue my point to the death without considering anything else kind of guy. That's fine and I hope you have fun doing it. I find it ironic that I guy comes on a networking site and then presents himself with that kind of attitude. Good luck.

Just remember no matter how much "life experience" you may have, with 800 hours you pretty much can't do crap without someone else helping you out. Personally, I like helping the humble, YMMV with someone else out there.

One thing I notice a lot of, and I'm not saying you're guilty of it, is people feel that they're entitled to a job just because they have their ratings. With the past few years hiring boom, that kind of left most people with that mentality.

Very well said

That's a pretty bold cop out...

I agree with you fully

Alright, I think you've received your answer about fifteen times.

Aloft, people with various backgrounds made it VERY clear on which direction you should go. Why don't you step back and take the advice for which you asked for.

I love these threads!!!

"I have EIGHT HUNDRED HOURS!!!! Where's the job I AM OWED!!! CFIing is BELOW me!!!"

How about this... suck up your pride, get your CFI and make way more money than you would at a regional or 135 job. Be home every night and have control over your schedule...

Seriously, what is this guy's deal? Everywhere he posts he trashes people.

Because I said in the very first post I'm not going that route. That some people need to defend to the death THEIR choice as the only possible correct choice is simply asinine.

As people have pointed out, what I need is multi time. I've got all the 172 time I need. It's not like I can waltz into a flight school and declare "I want to get my MEI and ONLY my MEI, then I want to give ONLY multi instruction!" It doesn't work that way, and I know it. At most schools I'm familiar with, the multi students go to the senior instructors.

That said, my thanks to those of you who've made constructive suggestions while honoring my request to not simply clamor "get your CFI!!!!" ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

Every one of the four jobs I've held in aviation has been a direct result of someone helping me.

Aloft if I were you I don't know if I'd jump into professional flying just yet. Especially if you don't want to instruct. Given the current situation you may be better off keeping your day job while pleasure flying on the side. I have no idea how much you currently make but I can guess it's probably a LOT more than you'll make in flying with 800hrs. And there's just not much to move on to at this point.

Actually I'd figure a weekend instructing job would be perfect for you, but otherwise maybe just some weekend pleasure flying as things settle down (hopefully).

Wow, is that really necessary? How do you know what his attitude is? You don't even know the guy outside of an internet forum. Maybe the guy just doesn't want to CFI. Is that so much of a crime? There are many many ways to skin a cat, a hell of a lot more than one, and anyone who claims to have the "one" solution in any aviation problem is a fool. Period. Aviation is fluid, and where there's a will there's a way.

And you don't? Just because he's not taking the same path, and not following your idea for what he "has" to do doesn't mean he's arguing his point to death. Let it be, he doesn't have to get his CFI.

Just remember no matter how much "life experience" you may have, with 800 hours you pretty much can't do crap without someone else helping you out. Personally, I like helping the humble, YMMV with someone else out there.

Not true, apply, and see what happens, you can get on someplace if you try hard enough. Someone taking a risk on you, and someone helping you out are not the same thing at all.\

This whole thread, and indeed a lot of threads lately have smelled of horrible arrogance and flame. Very little discussion is taking place, and peoples egos are getting in the way of rational discussion and networking. People who may or may not know their ass from a hole the ground are saying that something in aviation is "THIS WAY NO MATTER WHAT."

Any buddy who thinks they know an absolute in aviaiton needs to open thier minds.

Certainly not as PIC...

Here's my only thing. You have great options as listed by many out there. Now I certainly cannot go into details with this however let me try to use it as an example here. During a trip I recently had although not at a critical phase of flight I ultimately became PIC (Authority) due to a situation. Now if you arent ready at 800 hours to fly around in a regional jet and take over duties if you must perhaps other options out there are best for you. Things happen that you cannot plan for and if you are not confident with being PIC (yes meaning even in the 121 world/135 world and a crew setting) perhaps other options would be best.

Again when I am able to speak about a situation I will. However stuff happens and after a recent event I was able to sit back and reflect and say I'm confident I could do the right steps if need be as PIC to resolve the situation. Something you have to be confident about in this world. So make sure you are confident you could act as PIC in any position you take because you never know when you might become a single pilot operation.

Let me add however the CFI gig isnt for everyone. Thus although I STRONGLY recommend it (rethink even if you ruled it out) it may in the end not be for you and thus other routes will indeed work best for you. As mentioned already I think most of the jobs out there have been already listed by many. Although I would also say if you did go for the CFI at some FBO's it might be possible to get some Kingair time etc. Just some food for thought. Best of luck!

That's be a pretty cool gig, the 207 is cool. I don't know if I'd want to fly it in the desert, they don't call it the "lead sled" for nothing. A chance to get into the Twotters would be cool too.

Come on Paul, just cause the captain went to the bathroom doesn't mean you were PIC!

;):D

haha i wish it were that.... kind of a larger situation though.... Trust me i wish it were the above.... Havent had a CA go for a wizz yet while in flight. Matter of time I know!
