...I remember when regionals required 3000TT to fly right seat in a BE99 or J31, and that was most people's first turbine.
[grumpy old man voice]Back in my day...[/grumpy old man voice] ;)

I respect ya Capt... but things don't always have to get harder with time... or stay as hard as they were... "back in the day". I'm not a young whipper snapper saying this either...

I would argue that getting furloughed would probably be better in the long run vs. getting put back on reserve (at our payrates anyway) :)
Well... you may have a point there... ;)

I liked the way things WERE "back in the day". Pilots were making big bucks, not crap wages. I wish they'd go back that way :(.

Yeah... but back in that day... airline pilots were retired military vets... at least the majority were. Not saying that's bad... but you basically had to risk life and limb (albeit for a good cause) in order to gain the experience needed... and during that time... your life was not your own.

First of all, "Back in da day" there were no regional jets, so crap wages is better than no wage.

2nd,
American Airlines MD-80 4th year FO- 69,120k a year
UPS " "-107,892 a year
Southwest" "-101,088 a year
Emirates""-60,600 a year tax free!
you get my point
plus most first year rj captains are making just under 50k so with upgrade times being as quick as they are these days, happy days are not far away!

I don't know about you but I'll take those "crap wages" anyday especially considering that the National Median Household Income is $44,389. Also keep in mind the salaries were based on guaranteed hrs at a very early point of a pilot's career(4th year at major airline). Once one becomes captain...you get my point. And if you decide to pick up extra flights and gain more hrs...Cha ching! Ask the Captains on this website if they make "crap wages" Since they said this to me about 50 times yesterday, I'll say it back to you...You'll See:)

Incoming.......

WoW! Now remind me again why <taken out for edit> employers will pay Low wages ......

Speaking of PCL Newhires......

I wonder how Mr. Buffalopilot did on his "scheduled" interview on Aug. 29th....

Incoming.......

WoW! Now remind me again why these employers will pay wages this low......

Now let me get this straight, you call these wages low b/c these are the types of wages I am talking about:

4th year pay...at a major..."very early" in ones career...

interesting viewpoint.

Just like your post about UPS payrates reflecting a pilot shortage, I think you are totally off base here. But that's JMO. I don't work for a major, and *probably* won't ever get to, so my $0.02 is worth, well, about $0.02 :).

Oops, read too fast.....

Was referring to the thought/statement.....of

crap wage is better than no wage......

did you happen to see the rates pre-concessions?

(serious question) in the job you work now, how much do you make per hour?

edited to add: I don't consider the "major" carrier pay as "crap", it's certainly a well paid position (at least as you get senior), I was mainly referring to the cuts they've taken and hits to the QOL. Hopefully I didn't offend any of the "major" pilots here. We all know the regionals are "below worm crap" wages. :)

Worm crap??? Holy crap... that's low!

He was referring to the fact that more flying was at the major level instead of being farmed out to the regionals (I'm guessing). There were plenty of jobs at the regional level, they were just in Brasilias, B1900s, Jetstreams, etc. I'd rather have a major job than a regional jet spot ANY day of the year. The way things are going, they'll be more 70 seat RJs out there at crap wages than 737s at good wages.....

As far as how many hours I'm getting here, right now I'm on the brink of getting off reserve. Right now, I'm just getting the 75 hour guarantee with no option of picking up open time. The hard lines here are normally around 80 hours with a few in the 85-87 hour range.

I make $10/hr in the job I have now. Yup the regionals are worm crap wages as an FO, but Captains are making decent money, at least in my opinion. I'll do a research on pre-concession rates.

You're right about the 70 seat RJs, airline corporate managers love those things, lower operating and pilot cost than a mainline 737 lol. Awesome that you are almost off reserve. What's the maximum flight hrs in a month? 90 hrs?

777 you would do yourself a favor to keep your hands on the mouse and off the keyboard and do more reading and less typing.

The best "new" FOs are the ones who have already been at a 121 carrier. Most new to 121 flying are gonna be pretty worthless in ORD, ATL, EWR, LGA etc until theyve done it a few times. I dont care how many times youve been into Rockford or Gary Indiana in your seminole or cessna, you're gonna have your headspin and you're gonna sound like the clueless person you are the first few times in ORD. And most are gonna probably be behind the speed of the airplane for awhile and do some dumb stuff.

A 500 hr FO is probably gonna be pretty worthless until they get 6 Months or so in the seat.

"Airliner 7340 I want you to do a 180 and come in on ramp 2 and go around west end, I cant get you out right now on ramp 3 on east end."
"Roger Do a 180 and come on ramp to and go around west end you cant get us in on ramp 3 on the east end now"
"BLOCKED!"
AHHHHHHHHHHH

Ooh.

Do me a favor and look up the CASM on a CRJ-700 and a B-737-700 and let me know what those figures are.

Thanks.

7.24 on US airways 737
9.47 on Mesa CRJ-700

whoops i was wrong:banghead:

Stop reading the press release and pick up the 10Q... or 10K whatever it is, I can't remember.

Kind of like why Skywest is so wildly profitable, because "someone" pays for their gas.
