Mechwarrior 5 is my jam far more than call of duty or some similar shooter.

My 8 year old is also enthusiastically into the idea but he manages heat about as well as you’d expect. I basically built him a bunch of assault and heavy class but stripped them down to 65-70% of weapons and then just run him through levels on easy to make the difference competitive enough.

Between this and world of tanks he gets plenty of shooter time so as to not completely suck at it the first time he’s over at some other kids house playing Fortnite or something for the first time.

I much prefer Battletech over WH40k, outside the, ahem, premium that GW charges, because I think a universe where we are horrible to each other is good enough without the evil robot overlords, a galaxy of creatures from a HR Geiger painting and actual demons.

I will say the while 40k lore is pretty extensive, giant stompy robots is my jam as well.

I need to give MW5 another try. People definitely seem to like it and it is awfully slick. Just a bit too twitchy for me.

I’m still waiting for a BT strategy game that lets me drop more than one Lance of something other than mechs. Let me drop a medium company supported by a Lance of Von Luckners and a couple Shilones.

40k lore is absolutely amazing because it doesn’t get lost up it’s own ass. I mean it doesn’t even shoot for the rule of cool… it’s more “effin what? Hell yeah!”

BT is great because it manages to take 80s optimism AND pessimism, crank them up to 11, stuff it into booty shorts and cooling vests, and then stuff THAT into giant robots.

Are there a younger group of internet porn freaks involved? Does that make it better or worse? Maybe they talk about the "good old times" before the next generation of furries started fornicating in public and embarrassing the old timers who had the timidity to head for the room before things got intimate. Is my perception completely off base?

I never fingered a stripper. I did see my dads hog. I'm not booking a hotel room and running around in a costume. I never disparaged the furries. I recall once I went to Palm Springs to work on a Lear 55 with some engine issues, I was actually on my way home from Thermal. It had already been diagnosed as a bad DEEC and I changed it, programmed it and verified it with engine runs. As I was sitting in the back of my box truck typing up the log entry in my laptop I looked to the west and saw the sun starting to set and decided to not battle the winds in the Banning Pass in a box truck. I ended up finding a room in a hotel that was adjacent to "The White Party". Don't get your britches twisted, it had nothing to do with race. All of those half naked young men seemed to be having the time of their life. I checked out before dawn the next morning and made it back to KVNY by noon on Sunday.
