Meetup/Retreat

Well, the Negative Nancy's here didn't rain on my parade. I didn't get a single inquiry from this site. Although I had hopes there were a few cadet types out there that monitor this site which is the reason I posted it here, I contacted two of the pipeline universities and through their social media apps. We have a meetup scheduled for the 2nd weekend in October. We've already got a nice sized group and are keeping registration open until mid September so I have hopes of maybe 50 guys showing. In addition, a couple of cadets that will be fresh out of initial at that date have committed to coming as well.

You're so creepy.

Seriously, this sounds like something from the old Abercrombie party days, lol. Look that up.

I'm actually in your target audience for cadets, having recently finished flight school and nearing 500 hrs. But you've completely turned me off to the Voy. If I wanted to be American, I'd probably go to PSA to be a cadet, before ever going to the voy.

If there's any cadet or college student or CFI or really anyone, please for the love of God stop signing a dotted line committing yourself to an airline and having a financial responsibility to that airline until you build your hours. Things change. When I was a CFI "Voy" was telling CFI'S it was a GUARANTEED deal 50% of AA hires come from "Voy". Go ask a Envoy pilot what the number is now.

It's all kool-aid and recruiting tactics and FFS the regional industry is fast changing every 6-12 months. I have absolutely no idea why students sign a dotted line to commit to a regional way too early, like they are on ESPN selecting where to commit for D1 football. Unless there's some huge financial incentive to save you money during your flight training, think long and hard about making these decisions. This is classic recruiting BS, let's go play golf and have some beers and talk about how you'll be a LCA at AA in 5.2 years. It's like a car salesman. Plan your regional based around where you want to be if the music stops. Be smart in this industry, don't just assume you'll be at airline XYZ for a set amount of time because Dacuj gave you a flyer and paid for your 28$ golf round at a local muni. Wouldn't shock me if it was Dave N' Busters either...

What a • show this guy is. Use your brain man, you're in such a fantasy land in your head that you will literally ruin people's lives with your ignorant misinformation. The forum is tired of it.

Plan your regional based around where you want to be if the music stops
Aight, my 2c on that.
What does that entail?
First off the regionals out there are
AA W/O
Skywest
Republic
Mesa
Horizon
Commutair
Endeavor
Gojet
AirWisconsin

Am I missing someone?
Go to the http://www.pilotdomiciles.com/ and see who has a base where you live, as commuting is a yuuuge QoL factor.
I started typing this, and, frankly, maybe we should attempt a quick and dirty scoreboard of pros/cons of various regionals based on input from the people that are there now? Even if it doesn't work out, might be somewhat educational and the process fun.

Mod suggestion:

can we swap thread titles with “does anyone feel like a loser”? I think that one more accurately describes what’s happening here. This will also give us the opportunity to get together with someone who could actually use a “meetup/retreat” to talk and help them out.

I think everyone has a different set of priorities than others. For me it was bases and stability of the regional. Granted stability is something that changes at regionals quite quickly but you can get a good idea of some to avoid right when you get in. Some might look at upgrades, pay scales, contract work rules etc etc etc.

I'm not saying it's an easy or quick decision to make, it's not. But this clown constantly suggesting it is and you're otherwise dampening your career has to be one of the most shocking and immature recruiting tactics I've seen. He's even gone as far as attacking any carrier outside the big 3.

I always tell people take all advice on the internet with a grain of salt, we all got a different story and a different set of goals and priorities. But this guy needs to be avoided like the plague and should be ignored by any cadet, CFI, pilot trainee, or hell even professional pilot.

A regional pros/cons list is a great idea but often times just sparks debates again between people with different sets of priorities. Which is why it's so damn difficult to easily write out a pro/con list. I feel like the best way to gauge and get information is just talk to a handful of line pilots and get a feel for what they say then see where that ranks with what you're looking for.
