Skywest Questions

Preparing for severe disappointment and a lot of cheerleading the company's interests from SAPA and the SLC cabal. Whaveter benefits one group and does nothing for another will pass, the pilot group will stay divided, and management will laugh all the way to the bank.

Oh, and the voter turnout will be abysmal.

SAPA will send you 4 emails pushing for you to vote yes, put FAQ in all the crew lounges, staple it to the front of SWOL, say sign on bonuses mean you're going out of business, lie about where we rank in pay scales, and then call a 2% raise a 9% raise.

Oh, but they won't pick sides! They will stay neutral.

Oh you forgot to add, we'll vote on it before they ever have us vote to restrict new hire voting eligibility.

Raise or not, SGU is extremely smart and will not give out something for nothing.

Seems like the shine is quickly starting to rub off of SkyWest. It looks like not as many people are attending the koolaid party.
Like 10 people complain all the time, things could improve, and they will, but I don't know why so many people are ruining trips for everyone else over it.

10 people? That's disingenuous as all get out and out of touch with half the pilot group east of Denver.

I uh, ok, it's 13 people.

Does no one know how to infer meaning anymore?

I don't notice anyone "ruining trips" over it, but I'm also not sipping the kool-aid like we are the "employer of choice".

I still have lots of fun and don't have any issues not talking about work if the captain doesn't want to talk about work work work. Trust me I can talk 4 days about your kids, I don't care.

But if you DO want to talk about work and other carriers, it's astonishing how many people don't even know what's going on. That's probably why we can only get 1%.

As for WO, I'm not totally convinced that should be the major decision maker. A lot of WO in the past got screwed over. For me it's still different depending on what you want. That being said, I think Endeavor is the place to go. More days off, more money, commuter clause (I'm pretty sure a good one?). Definitely seems a lot better over there.

SkyWest was the place to go from 2015 to about a year ago if you lived out west. Since then, every other airline has made significant pay increases. Horizon and Compass will guarantee you a base on the western side of the country. They don’t have as many bases, but potential new hires also know they don’t want to end up in ATL or DTW. That also extends to the upgrade process, again a sub 2 year upgrade and staying out west is doable with the other two western regionals. At SkyWest it will be MSP, DTW or ATL for a while. I know more than a few guys holding out on upgrading because of the location they would have to commute to in order to log some PIC, especially the ones who are PDX/SEA ERJ FO’s.

Just a reminder though, it was only four years ago that SkyWest pay was 22 an hour first year, they had issues filling classes and raised pay. Management is smart, as much as we cringe saying that. They will raise the pay when they need to. Not any later but certainly not any sooner. As soon as attrition beats new hire numbers you will see more money, mark my words ;) All regionals take their turn at the bottom and claw their way back to the top, it’s the cycle and how this atrocious part of the industry stays afloat.

The pay will definitely have to raise if they want to extend east, no way would anyone with half a brain currently choose SkyWest over Endeavor if they wanted the ATL base

While I’d currently recommend most places other than SkyWest, I’d still choose them in a heartbeat over Compass or Horizon. Management here is very shrewd. More than I’d say about those 2 places.

And as shown in the past, social media and OO are NOT representative to the entire pilot group (the 20% that vote). Kind of like the media and the Presidential Election.

Negotiations?
They are aware of the updates in pay at other regionals increasing. So the company agreed to talk about increasing pay. I don't see how this will go good since they have the power on their side to just say "nah, 4 years left".

I don't think we are having issues filling classes either from what I saw a couple months ago.
