Skywest Questions

Is SFO junior for the ERJ now? That's a ton of movement out west.

I just moved up about 30% for my bidding seniority. This is crazy.

I kind of wish I had gotten hired right into SFO but at the same time it's nice to be at re front of the pack of all these new people.

I guess I'll have to learn bid something other than reserve...

It's a good problem to have. Then again, another month and I'm still the plug on the CRJ in PHX. Flew all of 9 days last month, with only 4 nights away from home. At this rate I may forget how to fly.

Well FWIW, PHX could be due for a large influx of CRJ 900 flying if you believe the rumors being spread around.

I believe the rumors about as much as I believe my three year old when he says he's gonna eat his vegetables. When I see it, I'll get excited, until then, I'll just watch the green beans rot on the plate.

I used to race bicycles at a relatively high level. We were working on sponsors for the next race season one winter and I was very excited about next years promised bike. I asked my slightly older buddy if he was as happy as I was about the awesome bike we were supposed to get in the early spring.

He said: "when I'm riding down the road on it I'll be excited about the new bike."

That approach to life has served me quite well.

I have been hearing the "we're getting more 700s/adding 900s/kicking Mesa out of Phoenix" rumors since before I started ground school. The "be patient, they will fail and we will swoop in" policy hasn't worked yet for the Houston guys and I won't bet on it happening in Phoenix either until my friends at Mesa get furlough/displacement notices.

I'm much more into the notion that the mythical 100 planes we are getting are actually just used ExpressJet CRJs. Afterall, there's evidence of that already happening every few weeks as CRJs with xxxAS and xxxEV tail numbers keep getting sdded to our OpSpec. Plus with MX going into ATL it makes sense for the eventual (re?)opening of the ATL base, especially if we eventually take the ExpressJet 700s and 900s.

Hey all! I've been lurking this page for awhile now and after this months awards came out I'd figure it would be a great time to ask about bases. I just got hired on and will be starting CRJ class in a few weeks. Any info on how much CRJ flying is in SFO/SEA and how long it would take to get out there? Mostly 200's/700's in SFO?

Cheers and happy to be aboard!

Few months ago it looked like SFO was dramatically shrinking on the CRJ side. Not sure if people getting in are replacements or small growth. UA side got some more 200's from AA last month and I heard they were mostly going to DEN.

SEA on the other hand is seeing some growth because our 700's are coming back online. News just popped we will fly more routes for Alaska this fall but nothing officially announced by the company. Someone looked up the tail numbers on the flow board to the AS 700's and said 7 will be online on the next month or 2.

Right now it's about 6-7 months from training date to both bases. Who knows what's going on then. Just put your bid in and be patient! That's all I know some others might know some more.

6 of the Alaska CRJ-700s show back online by the end of October, the last one not until December.

In the last year and a half I've learned flying in the regional industry is incredibly unpredictable and you have to be flexible. I got on line last April when everyone was getting sent to MSP, as someone who wanted ORD I got incredibly lucky because they took about a dozen of us and placed us there. Then ORD began to expand more and my seniority rapidly increased. DTW opened up and they started to take all the new hires. Then we got all the AA flying and I shot up to the 30% range. These last couple of months I've stagnated around there and even went back a couple months. Now it looks like things picked up a little more with upgrades and new hires into ORD so it should rise again.

We're all just along for the ride. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't

This. This summarizes aviation perfectly.

Sometimes you get the bear and most of the time the bear kills your whole family and feasts on the remains.

You say this as if it is a problem. ;)

(Actually, it is, but that's another topic)

The yes voters do something that I'm not allowed to say in Derg's living room with respect to this rumot.

In the end seniority is seniority and you would've ended up in the same relative place regardless. My story is similar but different:
I left California and road tripped 2000 miles to ORD after sims to:
do IOE,
2 quick turns,
and displace lineholders off 2 trips so I could get my 100 hrs in 120 days,

and now 4 months later I'm headed back out west at the end of Aug. I realize this is just how it works in this industry, but it still boggles the mind why I could not have done this in SFOo_O. Not necessarily complaining as I know guys had it much worse before, but I'm starting to loose track of all the addresses I've taken up to make this job possible, it will be three this year alone!
