Question for you? Why would anyone in today's world, want to go to SkyWest. Over say a union wholly owned? Ya'll's pay is low, lack of sizable bonus. Low starting pay? No union or even commuting policy. Commuter hotels. Or even the weak carrot of a flow.
No shade to my OO friends. But your management has to seriously step it up. In today's world and money, the WO seems to be where it is at. All subject to change of course without notice.
Your pay is low for year 1. Need to look beyond that. The PPS and performance bonuses make pay here much better than a bottom feeder regional that's going to give you a heavy taxable check of $20,000
It's pretty simple in my eyes. Fast upgrade (If you want it and have time) or a better QOL for those who live and want to stay west coast at a regional. You can pick both here. That's why our classes consistently fill up.
If your goal is to commute and make lots of money as an FO I wouldn't come here personally. Certainly I'd like more money as an FO but I'm already year 1 and with the cadet program getting performance rewards. I'm 6 months in and can already obtain SLC/SFO/MSP and got a composite line next month in SLC that will only have a few reserve days added on. If I wanted something better I would sit 103/290 in DTW or hold a line (rather bad one) in ORD. Lots of options.
While my buds are going to sit reserve months longer at Envoy because recruiters gave them false information and aren't even close to the horizon of holding a line. I don't know about Endeavor but I'm pretty sure their bases take longer to get and all new hires commute to New York? No way. Not worth the paycheck.
If you live and want to stay west coast, I don't see why anyone wouldn't pick Skywest. Just my personal opinion. If you don't mind venturing out east or commuting for years, go for it. This isn't the place to make the most money as an FO but at least I don't have to worry when Trumpy goes into a war if my job will still be here (knock on wood). 6 months and I've moved up to 3800 out of 4300 pilots. Not bad at all.
Some days aren't the best commuting to reserve for 3 months was a drag but I'm absolutely happy with my choice and if I could do it over I wouldn't change anything. If I complained about sitting reserve 3 months to my Capts. they'd laugh their a** off. Every day is a dream come true. To drive to work and wake up with the mountains out of my window as a new FO at a regional? How can I?! Pay isn't that bad. I'd rather have my life than $14,000 after taxes bonuses to be over on the east coast. Just me. Hope that helps.
Also, no commuter clauses. What we have now is good. Not really sold on a union either. Does ALPA really do much for the regionals? Just outweigh your options and look at everything. A LOT more than pay. What I said you might disagree with and the excuse for "I'm going to mainline in 1-2 years"...well good luck to those fellas. Lol.
