Why can I never figure out how to make this work![]()
Figures a month after moving across the country my seniority shoots way up in LAX then goes down in my base. C'est la vie.LAX or SFO! I'm telling you man. Instant seniority.
Do not bid LC in SFO. It is no bueno. A lot of people chop off their turns and you will be first call to get it. A ton of people also drop standups and you will be assigned it first if it's within the 12 hours. Thank me later on this. LC sounds great on paper but then people wonder why they got it when they are junior reservists... it's because someone learned their lesson. Remember SkyWest has the worst RSV rules in the industry. I'm not trying to be negative but it is true.
You're kind of open to get anything on reserve, but you can bid for reserve lines. You can find lines that are AM or PM reserve with the days off you want (usually, you have to pick one though). Or long call, but this is all subject to seniority too. Best bet if you want to travel is find reserve lines with days off that flow into each other (say a reserve line with 3 days off at the end of month 1, then 3 days off at the beginning of month 2). Wish someone told me that sooner!

Um, um um ... I really can't answer those specific questions.
All I can say is that I'm pretty darn happy here on the 175. ^_^
I have pretty decent control of my schedule, I get fun trips, I can work a lot if I want, and I can work fairly little if I want. I'm in the middle of a block of about two weeks off with one standup in the middle, and should still credit 76+ this month. Last month I had two non-contiguous weeks off, fifteen days total, and credited almost 100 hours. I did work a lot at the end of the month, though.
But realistically speaking, the questions asked are pretty specific, and my schedule has varied so much (by choice) that I really can't answer. The closest I'll come is "legs per day", which I'd say averages somewhere between 2 and 3.

(Another one of my deeply, deeply unpopular opinions.)
Pickup is one thing. A straight drop of part of a rotation into open time us an unacceptably inefficient use of limited reserves. As someone who did countless locals for far less than min credit whilst not breaking guarantee I'm with you. Just wish we could post split trips for pick up. Now that would be handy and win-win.
Pairings here. Not rotationsPickup is one thing. A straight drop of part of a rotation into open time us an unacceptably inefficient use of limited reserves.
Ah yes, the classical OO attitude of "well I've got mine."Pairings here. Not rotations. And I like it! I'm a commuter. Don't have reserve coverage to drop the entire trip, or even the last day and a half or something, but there's coverage on the last day? I'm going to drop my last turn and catch an earlier flight home. Sucks for the reserves. Don't like it, transfer to a base where you aren't on reserve.

Not really. Just saying I like the ability to drop. It's way too damn rare that we have adequate staffing to drop anything, so when the opportunity presents itself, I'm going to use it. As someone who is voluntarily going back to reserve next month in a different base, I understand the consequences. I'll probably be doing a lot of MKE or MSN turns out of ORD.Ah yes, the classical OO attitude of "well I've got mine."

One thing I wish was different about our reserve would be the hard lines. I wish it were like our old shop where you could bid for PMs on day one and subsequent days of reserve, then bid for AMs on the last day to get you home same day.
Are they, now? Even after the "re-election?" Or will his agenda change the direction things are going?Preferential and proffering are coming, and hopefully along with them automated exchange.

IOE is looked at by hours not legs as far as I know.Quick question.. My first IOE trip last week was meant to be a 4 day 10 leg trip. Because of wx and other cancellations it became a three leg roughly 4 flight hour trip. I'm now on my second trip and aside from a wx divert yesterday all is going normal. Will I be able to get another IOE trip to make up for the first one? Or will a third trip automatically put me in the "special tracking program". All other training went smooth, no extra sim sessions or anything. I just want to make sure I am comfortable and have a good amount of legs under my belt before I sit reserve for a while.
