Skywest Questions

I know it probably varies by base but how long does it take to get long call reserve vs. short call reserve?

Do not bid LC in SFO. It is no bueno. A lot of people chop off their turns and you will be first call to get it. A ton of people also drop standups and you will be assigned it first if it's within the 12 hours. Thank me later on this. LC sounds great on paper but then people wonder why they got it when they are junior reservists... it's because someone learned their lesson. Remember SkyWest has the worst RSV rules in the industry. I'm not trying to be negative but it is true.

Two things.

(1) If you are on LCR and drive to work, a lot of the suck goes away.
(2) Standby for news re: Long Call and their utilization. We're going to see some changes, probably within the year (I know, I know, I want it NOW), regarding reserve utilization.

Yeah basically the difference would be driving from where I live now. Or camping out at my in-laws house near the airport. IIRC its 2 hour vs 12 hour. Is that not the case?

Nice glad to hear it. I just feel for those that expect LC to be commutable, but it can be made where it's almost impossible to commute to.

It's almost like playing Russian roulette, sometimes you could have a great month and another you get the bullet.

Thanks for all the hard work in SAPA and I look forward to some positive changes for future hires/junior CAs that may not have to be scared of RSV.

I second that. I was based in SFO on the ERJ for one month on LC. I commute from the east coast. I was called more in that one month to do locals than i was in 11 months based in ORD. It sucked

Remember also the following:
(1) You are commuting to reserve.
(2) Our work rules permit a split pairing drop into Open Time, which is faintly ridiculous, but that's what results in LCR guys getting nabbed for turns.

Um, um um ... I really can't answer those specific questions.

All I can say is that I'm pretty darn happy here on the 175. ^_^

I have pretty decent control of my schedule, I get fun trips, I can work a lot if I want, and I can work fairly little if I want. I'm in the middle of a block of about two weeks off with one standup in the middle, and should still credit 76+ this month. Last month I had two non-contiguous weeks off, fifteen days total, and credited almost 100 hours. I did work a lot at the end of the month, though.

But realistically speaking, the questions asked are pretty specific, and my schedule has varied so much (by choice) that I really can't answer. The closest I'll come is "legs per day", which I'd say averages somewhere between 2 and 3.

Are you SFO-based with SKW?

LCR is -awesome- on the E-jet, IME. Awesome enough to make me almost want to go back to it ... but I like the increased control of my schedule I have as a lineholder.

Why can I never figure out how to make this work :(

Every airline worth working at has split pairing drop.
