To the earlier rumored post I can confirm the EP&L test is gone for good. They did a test class last month and they told us at CTP today. So far loving everything I've learned, coming from the GA world. Great instructors and training so far. :)

Emergency procedures and limitations test that you use to take first week of indoc. I don't even think they are sending the packet to new hires anymore from the way they were talking about it.
Memorizing cargo weight is silly, especially considering the number of configurations we have, and other grumbly stuff.

Interesting. I start class next Monday and have been studying the Emergency limitations and Procedures packet like mad. Hmmm.

Well the EP part of that is still 100.0% knowledge as far as I'm concerned; I wouldn't be surprised if the test has been softened a bit.

If it's on the panel, you really don't need to know it; things like minimum N2 at idle and N2 split at ground idle are not placarded or labelled, so that's different. That said, there are "useful" things to put on there, vs. "not useful" things to put on there.

(My opinion only, of course.)

Oh come on, it's not that hard! 3740, 3650, 4375, 2610, 8, 8, 13, 43, 70... It isn't not a critical surface, especially not in Canada.

This will never ever be a waste of time. It will only make the sim rides less overwhelming.

Memory items AKA boldface items, lights (the EICAS messages) and limitations should be committed to memory before any type rating.

If you've never flown an aircraft with an FMS you'll be struggling to use that and fly the sim at the same time. It's best to show up as prepared as possible.

Runway heading 251, initial course SMO R-154, One zero eight, one zero eight, one thirteen, one forty three, one seventy, one hundred percent, bleeds closed, taxi check, flaps...trim set, manual feather checked, flight controls...

Hilarity, of course, is that I can (still) tell you that, but not the cargo limits on the CR7/CR9 (aircraft in which I am not checked out, but still might get checked out in any day now).

I generally like the idea of "some" bold print - in particular, flap operating speeds - but chafe at weights being memory items. At the previous shop, we could (indeed, had to) read them off the reference card.

What's the cargo capacity of each of the pod bays? Hellifiknow, it's painted on each pod door.

Yup, I think max landing weight is the only one we really need to know. Although that minimum flight weight is pretty handy too!

I've had the Luggageworks Stealth Air for a couple years, used it at my survey job where I would check it quite a bit and some medium psuedo commuting at OO. Lighter than the usual stealth bags. It's held up mostly pretty well, one of the sides of the frame got bent pretty quickly, not really an issue too much, although now it's gotten bent more so it's rubbing one of the wheels just enough to make an annoying squeaking noise sometimes. Handle's been solid, although the velcro that holds it down has given up the ghost pretty quickly. The zippers have been rock solid though, a lot better than the flimsy old ones they used to use, which I guess is really the important bit.
 
Studying like a madman right now. I've been trying to draw a Falcon 900C Electrical system, never had to do that for my type. But I'm getting it down. At least the basics anyway. Fingers crossed.
