Asking for the jumpseat and other lost traditions

Boom. Now pick up my dropped mic with your tweezers! :)

Doug... how'd you miss this? Long Hair + Vacuum?

Trying to come home NRT the other day I went up to the front of a United 787 to ask for permission to ride home. Permission granted, I walked on back, said hello to the FA's, and began to build a fort of blankets and pillows in my wide open row of Economy Plus. Shoes off and earphones in, excited to finally watch 13 Hours, I looked up and saw the Captain is standing there.

He walked all the way back just to make sure I had a good seat and was comfortable! He welcomed me again, and returned up front.

I've seen crews walk down the aisle greeting everyone, but to make the walk just as the last item of "preflighting" the jumpseat...that is class!

If he didn't move you to business class, he wasn't really trying ;)

No seriously, of all the airlines out there United seems to be the best one putting jumpseaters (OCM) into business class on international inbound flights.

Completely full, and he apologized!

Update:

I just learned that the person I was referencing about earlier in this thread ( captain leaving the crew during a med emergency) died that night.

Thought the brain trust here would like to know.

To save his life. No.
To help control the chaos, and the clear lack of "incident command", yes.

But hey, it's cool I know where you stand.

He doesn't creep on Flight Attendants like you do so no need for him to stick around.
