Skywest Questions

I feel partially responsible for @Acrofox's choice in equipment :(

BUT, now that aforementioned fox is denned where aforementioned fox desires to be denned, I absolve myself of said guilt. "Omni, omni, ADF, amen."
Are you kidding?!

Man, I'm happy as a fox in ... um, a hole. I love the 175, and I have not—not once, not for a moment—regretted taking the 175 instead of the CRJ.

Now that I've got my transfer... even better.

They said "what airframe do you want?". And I said "preferably one with a seat I can occupy."

CRJ it is. I don't regret it either.

Congrats to all of those getting off reserve! I'm about finished up with training and will be moving to Colorado Springs in about two months. I'm looking for a little insight on the quality of life between Colorado Springs and Denver flying. If I'm understanding everything right COS is going to have almost every trip being an early show and late release. I know I can't know before I get there but is it better to drive an hour and a half to DEN for the variety in trips? I'm just trying to think ahead and see what may work best.

Thanks!
No. It's not worth it. Plus, you get COS, you'll be moving up a number like @JustinS ;). Trips in cos are great. Granted, I bid #11, or something close to it, but I just finished a 16 hour 2 day with a 10:19 show and 19:11 release. Many trips like that...it USED to be early show/late finish but they've curbed that a bit in COS. You move to COS, sit reserve in COS. We don't call in much, so on reserve you won't be working much. Reserve in base rocks. You get called on reserve, you'll be working with awesome crews. Screw DEN. You might have to fly with @bike21. But then again, in cos, you might have to work with @GypsyPilot.

Again, in ALL seriousness, do not drive to DEN if you are moving to COS. Sit reserve in COS. You will be fine, and moving up the ladder quick enough. The drive to DEN, depending on where you move to, could take 1.8 hours, plus 30 min bus time, plus 15 min curb to B concourse, plus 10 B concourse to crew room. Having sat reserve at 2 regionals, it's not atrocious at Skywest. It's not good, but not atrocious.

I've known 1 person to do the COS-DEN commute. I've known 4 to do the DEN-COS commute. Should give you insight as to how things "are."

Ah so you're that guy that got the upgrade this month. Congrats, man! Also thank you for putting in your bid unlike the top 10 forever FOs. If they all just upgraded that would be great. :-P

Thank you for the insight guys! Looks like I'll be sticking with the COS base then. Look forward to being on the line with you all

They really are forever FOs. I know their stories. They're either holding out until they can hold COS, waiting until they don't have to pay anymore child support, waiting until they're #1, or waiting until they move on (a few of them are ex military so they think they'll move on soon). Bid credit per duty period, without weekends off, 3 days, and you'll get 90+ hours with 17-19 days off/month. ;)

I've bidded a lot of different ways, and I've always been pleased with my results at my seniority. Can't complain. I've gotten some 20-24 hour 3 days because they're 1) Mexico flying, 2) On the weekend. Fine by me!

Best kept secret in base!

Yup! I bid for what I know everyone else doesn't like, and it works out great. 16 hour 3 day with some sweet California overnights in the 2 hundo? Boom got it. 700 trips to Mexico. Boom got it. MDG locals that leave at 5PM and get back at 10PM. Boom got it. Because apparently whats left of the people above me don't want those trips. I'll gladly take those QOL boosting trips all month long. Unfortunately I'll have to adjust my strategy with the Mexico flying going away. :(

Are you going to be a line holder in SFO, or still on reserve? If still on rsv, will you fly more? Or will it still be rsv hell, only in a better city?
