Skywest Questions

This is where the pilot community stubs its toe, in my opinion. On the one hand they talk about the "profession", then on the other act like blue-collar thugs talking about "scabs". I think wanting to be in the former, but acting like the latter has been at the root of the problem for career pilots for quite some time. But that's probably a discussion for another thread.
Do you consider this job not to be blue collar?

Yep, that's a simple way of looking at it. And provides impetus to continue raising the 121 retirement age, which is probably inevitable the way things are going.
Full social security even for me is age 67.

I have a few buddies that are trying to come over and cant because of the fact that ORD is so amazingly overstaffed. Hopefully LAX opening and the rest of the new planes coming on line will help alleviate some of those transition problems. Just if you are above me seniority wise.... Feel feel to not stay at ORD haha

It's incredible, like an entirely different company. I've talked to a few guys on the 175 and they barely fly. They can drop whatever they want AND are getting the good trips that the 700 is losing/lost. Meanwhile we're working 90hr min lines and being CN'd into trips with minimum time off with no chance of even dropping a turn. I'm exhausted!

I'm a 6/14 hire so if you're newer than that....sorry! haha

You're probably correct. But keep in mind the old saying, what goes around comes around. Remember you'll be there someday, too.

I don't know what this means and what you don't understand about this whole issue.

The law pushes pilots out at a specified age. I and other pilots are not taking their seats, they are taking ours now after already working a full career. Age 65 was a frustrating setback, but the law is the law. However, when a company and pilot wants to circumvent the law and further hinder progression, or in this case, take money from those of us on property, is when I have a problem with it. Those pilots who are beyond 65 have no right to pilot our aircraft anymore, (nor are cadets which is what the proposal was to fill the right seat). They are not on our seniority list, and are not qualified for part 121 ops.

Why did I bid CRJ Captain in MSP again? Oh right. Career progression.

That means, it will happen soon! Everyone told me I'd be surprised when it happened, but I didn't believe it.. It came at least 6 months quicker than I anticipated and I was definitely surprised!
Honestly, it's years sooner than I expected when I started here. In fact, by almost half.

Tells you about upgrade time, for sure...

Pretty simple. If you're over 65 you aren't on the SKW seniority list. Thus, you aren't flying any repo flights. I don't care how bad the ROW repos are. Done more than a handful here. They should be flown by legitimate 121 qualified SKW pilots. Whether rsv or for JM pay. Same with other repo flights. Flown by a rsv or someone that's getting paid time and a half.

When I did them, REPO flights were good experience for usually new captains and FOs. Usually no time, pax, or gate agent pressure. It's really a nice way to start building your rhythm. It'd be a shame to take that away from us.

By policy, within 72 hours of 0900/01MT. List has been closed for a bit, so everyone just chill. :)
Is that the policy? I honestly didn't know we had a timeframe for VD to put the awards out. I'm anxiously awaiting this award...I have a legitimate chance for one of those glorious MSP left seat slots...
