More folks should be paying into the ALPA pot to accomplish these items, for the profession. If you aren't paying into that pot, you are freeloading.
I would rather have those pilot groups as ALPA represented. We'd get a lot more done that way. Perfect example is if UPS Pilots were part of ALPA I don't think there would have been a cargo cutout in FAR117.

This WHOLE discussion is just grown-ass men acting like petulant children.
I understand the argument, but I think mostly they are just pissed about seeing non union guys in their union line. KCM isn't a product. It's an improvement over a government program, intended to better the screening overall. It's better for passengers, better for us, and better for the screeners. So ALPA had a choice, do this for everyone, or not at all.
Increase the fees for non-union participants. But this never was intended to be a profit center. The implementation costs are sunk, and now we all benefit.

Oh I'd say this is fairly civilized when you're talking about the realm of petulant children. My daughter would have called the UN and had me brought up on charges of crimes against humanity for making sure she didn't eat a tube of chapstick today. That's the kind of behavior I expect out of most pilots, and I'd say folks in this thread have done much better than that.

Get on the trolley, Train.You know how all politics are local? All unions are local too. If the guys at your airline suck, then you'll get poor representation. If the guys at your airline are great, you'll get great representation. It doesn't matter who writes the yearly dues check to the AFL-CIO.

That's cool, but it's funny that all of these cats proclaiming the superiority of ALPA over the Teamsters, IPA, APA, SWAPA, and USAPA, have never actually been represented by the Teamsters, IPA, APA, SWAPA (maybe @ATN_Pilot, briefly), or USAPA. I'm getting a real kick out of the idea that we should all join just up and join ALPA instead, or contribute to their funds anyway.
