Now that you have elaborated a bit more I can see were maybe those last two lines were not directed at me and my Part 135 brethren, but at non-union 121 operators. I'm not a very good mind reader though, and you often don't have much patience.

The funny thing is, I don't recall being terribly impressed by ALPA while I was represented by them. The current iteration of IBT I'm represented by has far more teeth when need be, and that's not exactly saying much either.

You know how all politics are local? All unions are local too. If the guys at your airline suck, then you'll get poor representation. If the guys at your airline are great, you'll get great representation. It doesn't matter who writes the yearly dues check to the AFL-CIO.

I understand the argument, but I think mostly they are just pissed about seeing non union guys in their union line. KCM isn't a product. It's an improvement over a government program, intended to better the screening overall. It's better for passengers, better for us, and better for the screeners. So ALPA had a choice, do this for everyone, or not at all.
Increase the fees for non-union participants. But this never was intended to be a profit center. The implementation costs are sunk, and now we all benefit.
This WHOLE discussion is just grown-ass men acting like petulant children.

Oh I'd say this is fairly civilized when you're talking about the realm of petulant children. My daughter would have called the UN and had me brought up on charges of crimes against humanity for making sure she didn't eat a tube of chapstick today. That's the kind of behavior I expect out of most pilots, and I'd say folks in this thread have done much better than that.
So sure guys disagree about this. But you know why? It's because some folks in this thread were on the ground floor in trying to get KCM going, and now they've got other folks providing their own revisionist history to their rationale.

Oh I agree it has been mostly civil.
I was an ALPA member when KCM was developed, tested and implemented. Still, I don't see it as an ALPA benefit. I've explained why, so I won't belabor the point. I'm not trying to revise their rationale.

Thanks, I've only been represented by ALPA, IBT 747, an in-house union, and IBT 1224 at 3 separate carriers. I obviously don't know how this works at the carrier level. Get on the trolley, Train.

That's cool, but it's funny that all of these cats proclaiming the superiority of ALPA over the Teamsters, IPA, APA, SWAPA, and USAPA, have never actually been represented by the Teamsters, IPA, APA, SWAPA (maybe @ATN_Pilot, briefly), or USAPA. I'm getting a real kick out of the idea that we should all join just up and join ALPA instead, or contribute to their funds anyway. I'm really hoping you aren't lumping me into that group. I don't give a damn what union you are part of, although in the end it would be much more beneficial to us all if everybody was in the same one. My complaint is about the lack of funds collected from many union and non union groups that end up benefiting from ALPA initiated (non safety related) projects.
