Trip meals

I hate paying airport prices too, but I refuse to be a "food bringer". The extra bag alone would drive me nuts with the commute and then I'd more than likely leave it behind somewhere. Then having to worry if the hotel has fridges in the room, finding ice, etc. Just not worth it to me.

Depending on the TAFB for the trip, I try to keep my food expenditures at or under the per diem I'm to be paid. One of the things I enjoy about doing this job is finding restaurants I like and going back to them. Life is way too short for PBJ and bagged microwaved rice. And the only time tuna should be in the cockpit of an airplane is when they sink it and turn it into a reef.

Agree...Im not a food bringer, and im not a food getter either. I refuse to go stand in line on a 30 minute turn and go thru a list of FAs orders and get paid back about half. Id rather go hungry....Im sorry if that's dickish or assholishes or not being a team player...but AINT NO BODY GOT TIME FOR DAT!

You don't want to hear about what I had on the international side. It will piss you off.

Domestically, I'm not too sure yet if anything. Stand by.

Leaving ACC tonight. Undecided about the beef, chicken, fish or pasta. Pasta is usually last choice anytime and chicken/fish are in heavy rotation westbound. Beef is usually the eastbound choice. No ice cream sundae available out of Africa:(

Domestically, it's whatever the FC choices are for flights over 5+30.

Oh, the new movies were loaded! Now I have a whole other issue to deal with. What to watch.

Wide Body Flying breeds Wide Body Pilots if one isn't careful...
I gained ~15lb when I was in training at Eagle (everything was fried, driven everywhere, didn't exercise, basically an unhealthy slob, followed by commuting). It took a year at SkyWest, actually exercising and making some pretenses at eating actual food, to lose it.

It's very easy to get pear-shaped at this job; it's something I don't want to do.

We usually wind up sending one pilot inside at a time, but we're also doing short haul work.

I basically walk between the hotel and campus, and hit the gym for about 90 minutes before my training period. Campus has a very nice gym and even a massage room for @SurferLucas!

I bring most of my food with me . I don't do it because I'm cheap but rather because I'm a meathead. Hard to eat every 2-3 hours when you don't bring anything. However I am very cognizant of the fact that some stuff doesn't smell so appetizing to the other dude I'm flying with so I make sure to not pull those out in the cockpit. Otherwise works good lasts long time.

I got burned on that too one time. As a courtesy on a 30 minute turn asked if anyone wanted anything. FA's asked for $20 worth of Starbucks, got nothing but smiles when I came back. Then on the next turn they were upset when I didn't ask what they wanted. Fool me once.......

Do you bring protein powder with you?

Nice. No flak from the TSA?

I'm struggling with not being able to bring my oly shoes on the road. I fear change.

I bring a cooler with me on trips but I only keep snacks in there to tide me over until I can get to the hub/overnight and eat.

I did try the whole packing stuff for sandwiches and what not, but I couldn't stand having to constantly babysit my cooler making sure that its ice packs got to a freezer every night. Plus having the same food all the time got pretty old. Maybe I just wasn't creative enough.

Its like feeding a stray cat on the porch. Leave a little food out one day and they keep coming back, expecting you to leave more out.

Plus there is nothing like walking onto the plane on leg 1 with a new cabin crew, your Starbucks in hand, and a FA say "Oh, thanks for bringing some for us."

When I go to Starbucks, its a grande black coffee, thats it. I would be happy to buy the rest of the crew a coffee from time to time, but apparently im the only one left who drinks regular coffee. Its simple math...

$6 lattes + 4 or 5 FA / 1st year pay = No Bueno
