Trip meals

What rules does virgin have as far as crew meals and when u get them? At airways the crew meals are no bueno - I think they should negotiate that we get the same meals as first class pax get. U know, something edible....
that's what we get on airbus transcons. Not horrible. Are You on 190?

Yup. So no oven. Maybe the bus and an oven improves the quality of food. But it's usually a cold chicken breasts with fake grill marks and pasta or salad.

Airbus has ovens. 190 does not. Trans con crew meals are the same as the passenger first class meals. Some aren't all that bad. I even had one recently that I would classify as good! On the shorter flights that still get a meal, we get the same lovely plastic box the 190 does.

Oh ok, thanks. What's the plastic box? Buy on board meal?

I take food, not because I'm a cheap ass, but because I love to cook, and because I like to keep the crap food to a minimum. I love me some McDonald's breakfast, but all things in moderation.

You don't want to hear about what I had on the international side. It will piss you off.

Domestically, I'm not too sure yet if anything. Stand by.

I hate schlepping the cooler bag. And I don't commute!

I don't carry much of anything that requires any preparation; my cooler bag is usually full of prepared foods, foods that don't require much preparation, and snacks. I figure that if I'm stuck in the airplane (or on a short turn), then I eat out of the cooler bag; if I'm at a place where actual hot food can be acquired, I'll acquire it there.

One of my Captain friends will cook-and-freeze, and when he goes inside to retrieve paperwork he'll chuck it into the microwave, then into a neoprene sleeve that keeps it warm while we do pilot stuff. The smell of the chicken at top of climb makes me want to eat the checklist.
I never really cared much for people who cooked meat and brought it into the flight deck. The smell didn't sit well with me. Specially when that disgusting Tuna can was included in the "crew meals". That thing reeked inflight.

The salmon over pasta isn't bad. I find a lot of the meat tends to be loaded with sodium. My first ever meal I was going MSP-CLT and had French toast with maple syrup, little did I know it was a FC meal haha...

The hot plastic box meals aren't too bad. We've been getting them recently on the early redeyes out of the West Coast. The grilled chicken or steak with the Demi glaze is good. The BBQ chicken is pretty good, too. They all seem to come with mashed potatoes and green beans. It also comes with the aforementioned salad, apple and cookies.

Doing transcon redeyes all month, I started to get a little sick of the crew meals. It was the same thing over and over and if I got unlucky and got stuck with the mushroom ravioli (the brown one), it tasted like feet. I just started bringing a sandwich from Subway or a salad from Burrito Elito. Eat too much of anything and you'll be burnt out. I was.

Pro Tip on the plastic box meals: If you ever get the lemon vinaigrette dressing, DO NOT USE IT! It tastes like window cleaner.

I'd love to hear, I've never seen an international first class meal.
