Making the move to ALASKA

May 17th I am finally going to make the move to Alaska. Its going to be a big risk but people make these risk everyday. I have a place to live and family up there so that will make the move easier.
I am currently looking for employment and applied to two aviation related jobs up there. I am only a Private Pilot with Tail wheel endorsement but I have worked line crew positions at 2 different companies. I have machining and basic welding training at Vocational Center. I am also Machine and Tool Operator apprentice certified along with auto Mechanic experience. I have worked along A&P's and IA's assisting in aircraft Maintenance as well.

I figured I would post here for others opinions, thoughts, and Advice. If anyone Knows of I guess entry level Aviation related job opportunity's please, feel free to chime in. I have resume ready to throw at any company offering a job.
 
You could always start knocking on doors around Merrill Field and Lake Hood. Like Spernaks, Lake and Pen Air, Lake Clark Air, Land and Sea Aviation, etc.
 
That's my plan. Talking in person and a good hand shake will go farther then a email with attached resume.

My sister and brother in law are good buddies with the people who run Talkeetna Air Taxi. But that's a two hour drive from Anchorage.
 
k2 Aviation and ACE Hangers. I Emailed a resume to ACE and filled an application and sent resume to k2 aviation. I plan on it being a permanent move.
 
A couple years ago I heard you could do an apprenticeship through Everts to get an A&P, not sure if its true, but something to look into if you are interested in getting an A&P.

I think this is very exciting. You've got resources there for living arrangements and family already and that is a huge plus. There are loads of mechanics and pilots up there on this forum who will be more than willing to help you. You're young, realistic and eager. Go for it! Every professional was once only a private pilot. Having another job in aviation and flying on the side seems like a great route to me, anyways. I wish you the very best in your new adventure. Keep us posted, seriously.

I'm still "only a private pilot", that's the way I like it. Jets can suck it.
 
Nothing wrong at all with being a private pilot. I just meant that's how everyone who moves forward in flying career starts out, and he had mentioned he was "only a private pilot". Hell, many commercial pilots will eventually go back to private at some point after their careers end. And working in some other field in aviation and flying for yourself on the side, is the best of both worlds. I just edited my post above to explain that. I don't know what his ultimate goal is or where his career may lead him either. I am just happy for him and wishing him luck.
