Southwest has a new look (pilots)

Yes, but it's assigned when you check in, so it's still a mad dash to be the first person to check in 24 hours prior to departure. And besides, a place in line is not the same thing as an assigned seat.
A mad dash to be the first to check in, or just being around a computer and typing in your confirmation code 24 hours prior? I know I prefer Southwests style to the zone system where you have to fight through the 150 people in Zone 4 to get on.

Also 3 stops to get from ATL-DAL? That's a blatant lie. Unless I'm somehow miscounting ATL-HOU-DAL, or ATL-AUS-DAL. We would love to offer nonstops right now, but it's illegal. I know you hate Southwest, but if you're going to spew Hate about an airline, at least have it be true.

I do too. And I'm tired of seeing him bash my employer over and over on this website. Its his right, but when I see a lie, I'm going to call him out on it.

Saying that 3 stop itineraries are 'not Uncommon' between Atlanta and Dallas is a lie. Unless by 'Not Uncommon' he meant 'not possible'

Defend your point, no need to take it personal.

I figure it's like this, people talk smack about my employer or probably even me personally on other forums and *cough* Facebook *cough*, but at the end of the day, they'd choke their miniature giraffe to trade places with me.

Haters gonna hate, bro.

Meh...I dunno too many of us who came from the ranks of wearing a uniform since 18 that would be all giddy about looking like a clown at 33.

There are those of us who are fairly progressive, but we also realize that looking professional means not sticking out like a sore thumb. Unless of course you're hanging out with OTHER sore thumbs.

You act as though everyone can be sitting at their computer exactly 24 hours prior to a flight. SWA's problem is that they don't accommodate the business traveler very well. A business traveler doesn't want to be sitting at a computer at a specified time just to get first dibs at a spot in line. Not even a seat, just a spot in a line.

I know I prefer Southwests style to the zone system where you have to fight through the 150 people in Zone 4 to get on.

Why are you "fighting through" people on other airlines? You have an assigned seat when you book the ticket! I flew on full fare business class tickets on both Delta and Airways last year. Each time I walked up to the gate about 20 minutes prior to departure, handed them my boarding pass, and strolled on to my assigned seat. Completely hassle-free, and I knew what seat I had six months prior to the date of the flight. That's what the business traveler wants, my friend. Not a mad dash to get a place in line for a chance at a seat.

Last minute tickets frequently result in numerous connections. You can claim it's not true, but we both know that it is.

And I don't "hate" your airline. I just don't like the product. Try to understand that not everyone is guzzling the kool aid that they're dishing out.

While I agree, it's a far cry from what it used to be. People scrambling and pushing to be in front of the line. It's much more civilized now. I find it no different then lining up by group number like other majors. It still feels like cattle in a shoot when ever I fly commercially any more.

Edit to add: Yes your seat is assigned months prior. However, if you show up to a full flight planing on not checking your bag, you are more than likely going to have to gate check it. The bins have been full on almost every domestic flight I've been on the last year. Or if you have to book a flight last minute, and it's close to full. You're probably going to get stuck in the middle not matter what. At least with SW there's a chance to avoid the middle seat if you check in on time.

I dislike it.

I commercial all over creation. The Southwest model trains gate lice.

Then again, I'm a frequent flyer with status on a couple alliances...

Do you have many leather bound books as well?

Oh. I didn't know this was going to be another bash SWA thread. So stupid and pointless. They made money while the legacies declared bankruptcy, so I get the angst. They aren't ALPA, so I get the additional angst. But if you don't want to fly on them, then don't. I'm all wrapped up in the Alaska FF program and that keeps me loyal but I think SWA has a great product. First of all, the folks I encounter there from the pilots, to the F/A's, to the gate peeps, they all seem pretty happy and customer service oriented. My experiences at United and AA are seriously lacking in comparison. I will spare you my AA story. Todd mentioned the business flyer not being happy with the boarding process. I'm assuming, since he works there, that he knows about "business select". Perhaps Todd's example of a business flyer is the guy paying a discounted fare a month in advance with a low fare basis, I don't know. SWA has thing thing called "business select". If you have a high fare basis (typical "business flyer", right?) it only costs you like $25 to be in the early part of the A boarding group. Effectively, you sit where you want on the plane. But, sadly, they don't have first class (though you get drink coupon). That's why I stick with Alaska and hope to make MVP again soon. But SWA is a class act in my experience. It's different, and some prefer apples to oranges, but I'm appalled that more here don't feel the LUV.

Even if we had a hatless leather jacket option, I'd probably still wear the standard-issue uniform.

Personally, it harkens back to the Pan Am days where you not only displayed authority, but also you represented your home country.

Narcissistic, absolutely, but you'll walk around CDG and you see sharply dressed KLM and Air France crews, all of the pilots in uniform coats, hats, and the flight attendants looking absolutely sharp, good postures, representing their airline's brand.

Now you see some US carriers, there's a guy in an unzipped leather coat, huge gut, another one with an unbuttoned blazer with his hat in his hand, and another one walking around in a civilian coat followed by a mis-mash of flight attendants in cat-hair sweaters, elastic waistband pant suits and shuffling around like they're slew-footed overweight zombies.

I'd say they're representing our country quite accurately.

Business select is a joke. There was an article just this past weekend in the Atlanta Journal Constitution about how most of the business travelers that used to fly AirTran have now switched back to Delta. Lots of complaints about the boarding process, lack of business class seating (even those that don't buy the tickets want the upgrades), etc. Two full pages in one of the largest papers in the country all about how SWA has completely screwed up their entry into the biggest airport in the world. Great job!

Lemme stop you right there. You shouldn't be lining up for anything. You should be lounging comfortably in the gate until your zone is called. Or at least standing in the background somewhere.

Gate lice make me want to pick up my flight case and lob it into the crowd in front of the door. You think you're making the process faster....but you're not.
