FAA Hiring Process Revamped

@ChasenSFO Why stay in the Bay Area when you can come to Palmdale and enjoy an extremely low cost of living and increase my seniority at the same time? :D

How bad is palmdale? I think the wife is eventually going to force me to Socal and ZLA would probably be the easiest potential swap or bid since I am already at a Center.

It is not as bad as the Internet would lead you to believe. Like most cities, it has good areas and bad. The air is clear! Much different from down in the LA Basin.

Application submitted. Guess we'll see what happens.

Did you use the resume builder? The job listing says to list prior work experience with exact dates dd/mm/yyyy however the resume builder only allows month and year.

Yes, I used the resume builder. It also asked for transcripts but never gave me the opportunity to attach them. Guess I will be faxing them over.

My guess is that this was a mistake, I hope anyway. I submitted my application with only the month and year. We'll see what happens.

The same you attached the resume, you click "Saved Documents" and there you upload the transcripts. Both should be done prior to filling out application.

Hmm...I've never been fulltime, always part time for flexibility reasons but I average more than 40hrs a week at my current job and my last job so I put in 40 even tho on paper it was 24 hours and 30 hours respectively. I hope I understood it right and they care about the average, not what I was hired to do.

The upload size for these files is limited to LESS THAN 3mb lol. Any scanned image is way beyond that and they want transcripts. Guess I have to get a text file from my university. Kinda cracks me up

So, if I submitted my application with my professional resume initially, would you recommend going back and resubmitting with the resume builder?

Wait, so any Joe Schmo can apply now? Interesting...Sadly I'll be 31 in August, so doesn't work for me, but good luck to you guys!

I had a guy pretty high up with the Federales drop by the ramp tower today testing a ground radar and he gave me some good and detailed info on the hiring process. In a nut shell; he cautioned me the FAA does what they want and things may change, however since so many facilities nationwide are going to be needing people, word is they'll be trying to accommodate people on the bid near the end of class at OKC to stay local if they want in an effort to keep people from saying "North Dakota? No thanks, see ya!". He advised me that it would be in my best interested to speak to the air traffic managers and NATCA reps at SFO and ZOA before I even take the AT-SAT and put a face to a name letting them know that if I qualify, I am very interested in their facilities. Of course, like many on here have already said, I was advised to take whatever I can get. Logic being that smaller outlying airports usually have faster checkouts and lower costs of living(important on probationary pay), and you can still transfer usually within a year or two.

Take that for what its worth, I'll be seeing him tomorrow as well.

Transferring isn't as easy as you think. I wouldn't count on it being a year or two. Also, while you're in training don't say anything. You don't want to be the guy that always talks about leaving before he even gets checked out. Checking out is your only priority.

What spades said X 1000%, dont be that guy no one in ATC give a crap what trainees think until they prove them self by checking out. We had a CTI new hire puke back in 2008 at C90, he told the training manager that he didnt need to go in the radar lab because he had prior ATC experience. When the training manager questioned him on where he worked he told him he was a supervisor on VATSIM!!!!! Well let me tell you that got out and spread like a wild fire in the tracon and that kid took a lot of crap for a long time.

A supervisor on VATSIM? LMAO.... did he at least get check out over there?
