I'm surprised that for the money they shell out to AMF, the company doesn't at least set them up in cheap motel. Actually... maybe I'm not surprised.

You would think with the money they make, they would stick 56k dialup in every crew apt at least... Wifi is like 20 bucks a month which is also nothing.

Why? Because the little stuff like that would probably retain pilots a bit more. But if the apps keep flowin....

Agreed. Bump the QOL and retention will improve. Doesn't seem like QOL is in any order.

I'm not sure what you could "bump up". The schedule is what it is and I think that's the hardest part. I think higher pay would probably slow the bleeding though, but it's still freight...

There is a bunch of stuff of stuff that they could do to make QOL a little better.

1.Reimburse people for First Class Medical expenses (Doesn't have to be the full amount, but even 20-30 bucks would help)
2.Provide a monthly cell phone stipend. I don't know about the other guys, but 60% of my phone use is for work stuff, dem data plans ain't cheap.
3.Staff the bases properly, so that every time somebody needs to take a day off it doesn't turn into schedule cluster •
4. Provide a uniform allowance. They want us to look all professional and stuff, but they must have forgotten how expensive new pants and shirts are.
5. Stop this culture where the pilots are treated like they are a bunch of low class plebeians that are easy replaceable. Instead make the employees feel like they are actually part of a team and recognize their hard work.
And finally,
6. A pay bump wouldn't be too bad either. :)

I could think of more stuff, but these are things that have always been a pet peeve of mine.

Nice living conditions for the 5-9 hours people are stuck in crew appartments would be a huge start. Industry standard pay would help a bunch too. Raising the pay so leaving to a regional would look less appealing. My guess is a lot of people would stay longer if the pay was better. At the regionals, you don't get paid much but the schedule is light years better, so you take what gives you the best overall QOL.

Yar, I see what you guys are saying. OMA and DFW had nice crew apartments. I'm totally ignorant to the dire conditions in oak and bur.

Instead of 4/3. I'd rather have 3 weeks on, one week off. With the supposed increase in jumpseat reciprocals, that alone would about do it for me to stay longer. No way they'd ever be able to staff the place for that though I bet.

Take your gripes to the new chief pilot. They don't do much good just hanging out on an internet forum.

Will they hire directly into the turbine aircraft? I am currently PIC on an MU-2 (but not flying as much as I'd like) so I am considering making the jump but I don't want to give up a METPIC job for a piston.....

It's all about the needs of the company at the time. They have hired directly into turbines in the past.

They wouldn't have any issue putting you directly into a turbine. They would likely put you in a metro. Just don't go to CVG.

How are things at PDX these days? Come 135 mins in a couple months, I might apply to AMF. I see PDX is one of the bases they're hiring into.. just trying to get an idea of how it is.

Amazing that two years at AMF would leave you in the top third of the seniority list. Do the Apps really flow that fast?
