I need 1,500 to go to Silver. I need 1,500 to go to ExpressJet, Compass, Eagle, etc etc. So why would Silver be a better "first airline"? The field is level and I have no reason to choose the lowest paying option other than MAYBE wanting to be based at home.
I don't have a dog in the fight... just pointing that out.

But I thought you guys were short pilots.... thus the hiring... Silver's website says nothing of DEC's at this juncture... so if this is all true why are FO's only flying 10 hours a month? They should be hitting ~100/month.It is if you are an FO on reserve and flying 10 hours a month.![]()

If you read the reg you can get the 1000 hours under 135 and 91k as well. It boils down to it either has to have more than 10 pax seats or jet not t-prop, all as PIC. So as an extreme hypothetical, you're flying a 737 under part 91 for some really rich guy who owns it outright, those hours don't count. Or you're flying a 1900 under 135 but don't have 10 seats in the back, again doesn't count somehow. How much 121 time does one need to be a 121 Captain these days?

It is. What really makes me laugh, is say you're flying around a 1900, SA227, EMB-120, F-27 or ATR-42(part 25 tprop) for freight under 135. You could do that for 10,000 hours as PIC but would be unqualified to have the same job under 121 even if it was still freight, the only difference being the certificate. It is odd what does and doesn't count toward the 1000 hours for captain upgrade in 121 flying now.

Makes things boil in my brain is what it does!It is. What really makes me laugh, is say you're flying around a 1900, SA227, EMB-120, F-27 or ATR-42(part 25 tprop) for freight under 135. That's my thoughts to.Makes things boil in my brain is what it does!ONLY way I would go somewhere like that, given my current times and qualifications, would be direct to the left seat. Oh well right?

I imagine that the schools with the 1,000 and 1,250 hour exemptions are about to start graduating decent numbers of pilots. Just a guess though.

Silver is looking for Saab and beech pilots, not the best place but if you are not current, have more than a few dui's, or just plane can't get on else where silver will take ya!
Yes but honestly why go unless you can be based at home or you go as a DEC? Plenty of better companies out there... I'd consider going as a DEC but that's about it...So if you're current and have zero DUI's and a four year degree (not in aviation!) surely you'll get the job?
Guess that explains why it took them 2 months to do somenes IOE on the Beech, and 4 months to find a base for him. He's the only person based at CLE, and has 40 hours of flying total on the Beech since finishing training in June. That was per a Facebook message I received a couple days ago... Another pilot in my Beech class (funny enough, it's the sim partner of the guy I was just talking about) is out the door after a couple months because of, well... it doesn't matter. He's leaving to go 135 cargo in Michigan.you'll probably fly more than enough to get your feet wet in 121 ops.

Actually working for the company still let me say, no one is based in Cleveland they are all still tdy after training and yes there are plenty of guys that came here for currency and are punching out.
