Silver air ways hiring all

I hear this 1500 hr rule is tough on them, any new word on those downgrades? Or may they hire DE Captains again?

It will either be dec's or the doors closing
It's harder to find direct entry capt's with the new rules to. I could have 4000 hours in a 1900, but unless I flew it under 121 or with more than 10 seats in the back, I wouldn't be qualified to fly the exact same airplane under 121. 121.436(a)(3)

Into what seats?

Last I checked, Silver needed more FOs. Silver has lost close to 50 pilots since this time last year and has only added 14 to the list this summer.

For those interested, Silver is stagnant at the moment. Little movement in the way of upgrades or enough new flying to justify hiring DECs at this time.

That being said, Silver is a great little 'first airline'. Good place to get your ATP and first type rating knocked out and you'll probably fly more than enough to get your feet wet in 121 ops. Excellent stepping stone to bigger and better airline.

Except they will literally send you to ATP for your ATP, and not type you with an ATP. There are a million other regionals to go to...

Probably will do a ATP/PIC type ride during initial now. The ATP thing was an attempt to save time and money.

It is a pic be-1900 type or sf340, we do not have enough pilots in general and are in danger of shutting the door because we don't have enough pilots, we are canceling flights all over due to staffing and united is not happy. If we don't get pilots quick then I am not sure what will happen.

LOL,

adding more routes when you cannot staff your current flying makes zero sense to me. But I guess this who industry makes little sense in general.

That is why I put it on here so I can fly the Saab like I should be and have more below me. Keep growing and try for some fresh blood!

I guess when they're paying a livable wage they'll get a few more bites...just a hunch though. (I don't have 1500 hrs so no dog in that fight yet)

I imagine that the schools with the 1,000 and 1,250 hour exemptions are about to start graduating decent numbers of pilots. Just a guess though.

People below us will help to a degree, but we both need upper seniority captains to leave :D

That it will. The ATP ruling made hiring minimums a level playing field. No more having 250 hours and Silver being the only airline where one meets the minimums. If compensation was up closer to the larger jet regionals, Silver would have a ton of bites and more might accept class dates.

Not going to matter. Those pilots are still going to be eligible for the same regionals those with ATP mins are eligible for today. The only way this helps Silver is for ExpressJet, SkyWest, etc. to stop hiring.

How much 121 time does one need to be a 121 Captain these days?

I need 1,500 to go to Silver. I need 1,500 to go to ExpressJet, Compass, Eagle, etc etc. So why would Silver be a better "first airline"? The field is level and I have no reason to choose the lowest paying option other than MAYBE wanting to be based at home.

I don't have a dog in the fight... just pointing that out.
