Call me short-sighted, but why exactly?
It is illegal for a company to unilaterally change the terms of a CBA, even if the change could be considered positive. They can't just raise a pay rate without negotiating for it. By doing this, they're effectively getting what they want (attracting newhires) without addressing any of the labor group's issues. Not acceptable. Pinnacle tried to do this with bonuses instead of pay rates, and ALPA put a stop to it. I'm glad that the IBT is doing the same at Republic. You can't let these people get away with unilateral changes. Bad juju.
