Red Tails!

I'm not as concerned about the idiot TIE-Fighter ACM (although, yes, hand up, I find it offensive and stupid) as I am about the treatment of the stories of these guys. With the huge proviso that I haven't seen the film, it strikes me as another Michael Bey idiot explosion-fest. And I guess maybe that in itself is ok, because the record of the 332nd backs up all the politics that were made of it, so there must have been a whole lot of dead Krauts involved. With that said, even the trailer was so full of anachronisms and retarded fist-pumping nonsense that I find it hard to believe that it does Justice to the actual, real human beings who flew in the 332nd. Is it a coincidence that they waited to make this shclockfest until most of those guys were dead or infirm? FWIW, I felt even worse about "Pearl Harbor", which was an unqualified affront to History.

If the Real Story isn't dramatic and impactful enough, we're a nation of retards. Oh, wait...

Tried to get some friends to go see it last night but they convinced me to go to "Haywire" instead. I also wanted to see "Haywire" so I agreed and by the time that movie was over we all thought hmm. Maybe should have gone to "Red Tails".

Not surprised you thought it was bad though. It wasn't I wanna go see it because it looks good it was I wanna go see it because it looks like some airplane entertainment.
 
Well, I just got back from seeing Underworld, and let me tell you it sucked*. What with all it's over use of CGI. Personally, I feel cheated dammit those weren't real Lycan's, or even vampires. *Gasp* it was CGI. What ever happened to using real vampires, and real werewolves? I liked that other show on HBO better, not the one with real planes and Lawrence Fishburn... but the one with real vampires, and no CGI. Yea, totally that!
 
Was "Schindler's List" too slow and boring for you? Didn't "pop" enough? See, it turns out that "Red Tails" purports to be about things that actually happened. Really important things. You know, the kind of things that aren't just in comic books.

Schindler's List was an excellent movie, I love it!
 
They were showing a premiere at the Metreon last night in SF, I lined up for it but didn't get in. It was free for the first however many. I want to see it in IMAX though for sure.
 
I think I will take it in tonight if I'm not too tired. Some of the bomber streams reached over 1000 before they broke off into objectives (at least in the 8th). So how can you film guys making slashing frontal attacks on tight bomber boxes with FWs and MEs without the airplanes and killing folks even if you could make them? I liked Memphis Belle from 20 yrs ago and it had some CGI too.


As far as 12 Oclock hi, that will be hard to top. But does anyone get upset when movies from the 40s or 50s use the stock footage that show a P-47 blazing away as a P-51?
 
Went and saw this movie today... the story was actually quite a bit more 'moving' than i expected. It had great action and sound... the couple of fellow pilots that i took along also said that the airplanes looked pretty realistic, although GL was a little imaginative with the aerodynamics "here or there". Overall, we all agreed that it was an enjoyable movie!
 
All the "here or there" must have somehow been included in the trailer, then. IMS, in the ~7 seconds of aerial footage there are at least TWO near-instantaneous 180 degree turns followed by a BF109 or FW190 exploding in a fireball from .5 seconds of 50 caliber fire. :rolleyes:
 
How "true" is the movie to the actual, real events of what happened? If the movie takes too many liberties with reality, I have no interest in seeing it. If it's actually somewhat accurate and factual, then I definitely want to see it.

I'm talking "real" as in accuracy of plot details and events, not related to the CGI and "flying scenes" type stuff that pilots (myself included) tend to get in a tizzy about...
 
Well I saw it and thought it was an ok film, worth seeing. In regards to the flying well the audience is not aimed at pilots on Jetcareers per se, but the public at large. A little corny in parts, but no worse than "Flyboys"or 'Pearl Harbor" As far as the computer graphics, I thought they were pretty good.

Despite knowing all of the many hurdles George Lucas had to jump through just to get this picture made. Simply due to the fact that the film mostly was an all black cast, I just want to say. Thanks for the super classy dig!

I don't really understand your point.

What I was saying is that the story, dialog, characters were so cheesy that it discredits the memory of the actual Tuskeggee airmen. This story deserved so much more than Lucas gave it. I don't really know what goes on in Hollywood, but even I could have written a better script.

The HBO movie had an all black cast, and was a much better movie. George Lucas could have bought it straight from HBO, inserted some new CGI dogfights, and that would have been a much better movie that both entertained and honored the real veterans.
