Red Tails!

Speaking of cheesy airplane movies, I think you could make a lot of money with an aviation movie that is brutally factual and real. It's kind of on my bucket list to create/produce a highly realistic alternative to where a group of passengers are faced with the cliche of safely landing an airliner. However, it would be very, very realistic and they'd fail spectacularly. With the right budget I'd bet I could make it so crazy that some people are afraid to get on an airplane from that point on. Its not a morbid motivation, but more a middle finger to every cheesy flying movie ever made.

I plan on seeing Red Tails either tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm hoping its worth the $17 to see it in IMAX.

IMAX should help the cause of the CGI in providing entertainment value, at least.

In any case, I love your movie idea. Like ChasenSFO said, imagine if the autopilot was inop. Haha. I'd bet they wouldn't get within 15 miles of where they wanted to be.

I remember mythbusters did something like that a while back in a sim. If I remember right, they started getting some GPWS warnings, and it went downhill fast from there.

Right, and Jamie was ready to take over command and be talked down. Imagine the panic in a real life situation. Especially if the plane is in the middle of someones sector on autopilot at cruise and you don't know how to get a hold of ATC nor do they suspect anything. Would go waaay differently.

I've already said but it's worth saying again that is the heart of the movie. Whether black, white or Asian (insert any race/ethnicity) the message is don't let anyone else define your success, or limitation. Others will simply show up to be entertained and watch a movie, maybe they'll also come out with the message also. But this movie wasn't made for a niche audience, that being pilots... it was made for a general audience, and they typically don't care about more than half the stuff many of you are complaining about.

Get over yourselves!

Hollywood has it right, they are appealing to a mass audience and not just aviators or historical types. Fly Boys as innacurrate and bad as it was, was entertaining. In the making of Top Gun, Pete Pettigrew, retired fighter pilot and Mig-21 killer was the technical director and said he complained a lot on the innacuracy of the film but was told they are making it for mom and pop in South Dakota. In the end, he admitted he was wrong and they were right.

For those looking for the truth vice myth's of the Tuskegee Airman. I'm not knocking these guys, I admire them to the last man. They fought for a country that often treated them less than human and volunteered to do so. I know blacs/African Americans have been fighting for their country since the Revolutionary War so nothing new, just different with the aviation aspect. I meet a few of them back in 99, flew them out to the carrier and it was an honor and privledge to be sure.

Covering these nine topics.

1. The Myth of Inferiority
2. The Myth of "Never Lost a Bomber"
3. The Myth of the Deprived Ace
4. The Myth of Being First to Shoot Down German Jets
5. The Myth that the Tuskegee Airmen sank a German destroyer
6. The Myth of the "Great Train Robbery"
7. The Myth of Superiority
8. The Myth that the Tuskegee Airmen units were all black
9. The Myth that all Tuskegee Airmen were fighter pilots who flew red-tailed P-51s to escort bombers

An old co-worker of mine (who happens to be black if that matters) was verrrrrrry excited to see this movie.
Immediately after seeing it he said it sucked, was all Hollywood, and that "Cuba Gooding and Neyo should never ever get another major role...I mean it..urgh!".

I'm still planning to see it.

I just refuse to give Lucas any more of my hard earned money. ESPECIALLY when he made comments in the run up to release about having "prequels" and other movies envisioned already.....but we'd only see them if Red Tails did well at the box office. Seriously, George? You've already taken some of the best movies EVER made, turned them into an orgy of CGI self-love and then declared the originals "no longer exist." The re-release of the prequels in 3D is nothing but a money grab, and I personally hope they flop in the theatres. The only way I'll spend any money on a product associated with George Lucas is a) the ORIGINAL UNEDITED Star Wars trilogy is released on DVD/Blu-ray (not likely given Lucas's comments over the past 15 years) or b) the original Indiana Jones movies (again, untouched save for re-mastering) are released on blu-ray. Even Spielberg has come out and said he wouldn't touch those. In fact, he's gone back and re-redone E.T. from the changes made for the theatrical re-release a few years back. Remember when the government's handguns were replaced with menacing walkie talkies? Spielberg has said he regretted that change, and the original release will be available on blu-ray. Maybe if Lucas would give the fans a choice, I'd reconsider. As it is, it's his way or no way, and I can't get behind that. I leave you with this:

BTW, if you're a sci-fi/fantasy fan, you will not regret watching the Bob and Carl skits. Hours of entertainment right there. I've met the puppeteers a couple of times, and they're awesome guys.
