SO, Did Eagle pilots win the lottery today?

Lucky for the eagle pilots.
I bet those that jumped ship over the past 5 years are mad. I know one he went to xjt so he could be in LA, got furloughed, booted out of la and now commutes to ord. He's thinking about going to skywest, but had he stayed at eagle he would be an erj captain at least now able to flow to aa. He's going to make a 3rd move in 5 years. At some point you need to just park it.

and alot of those apps are going to be from current regional pilots.

Doubtful, why quit your current regional job, go to year one pay, and possibly get furloughed right after only to get the opportunity to go to AA?

When in reality it will be around 9 or more (likely a lot more) years before you get called to AA.

think Eagle is about to get flooded with applications..

Anyone on the seniority list by October 11, 2011 has the opportunity to go to AA.

So you can get an opportunity to go a major after 4000 other pilots minimum go? Seems like people buy more things on late night infomercials than I thought.

Finally! Someone with a brain.

4000 is a bit high, they have like 800 on furlough and some low number are coming back, I think 100 would be a high guess, then we have almost 1000 that will go there over the next 2 years, some already are. We also have 3000 pilots, 1000 of which I just noted, so that is 2000 more, so you would be like 3100 in line if hired tomorrow, that is considering everyone takes it tomorrow, we got tons of guys at Eagle both FO and CAPT that will not wait that long, and already are in pools other places like J6.

I just got one thing to say.

Think we're going to see street captains at The Beagle?

Because THAT would be hilarious. 10 year upgrade to street captains.

Ya and MESA will buy UAL too.....We got a crap ton of FOs that are eligible to upgrade, I do not think much will change for at least 5 years, since nothing really can, and truely this is part of some other much much bigger puzzle, which in the end is AMR trying to get more 70 and some 90 seat jets, thats all this, in the end not much will change, and when AA hires it will be mostly EGL, otherwise business as usually, and worst off when the 145s time out some slowing of hiring at EGL/the start of shrinking which is 5 years out.

Yeah, but where are we gonna find 3000 hour street Captains in that kinda bulk? Our training department is already sucking the reservoir dry just trying to staff FOs!

The thing that makes me ponder is the expected huge aircraft order AA is expected to announce tomorrow. That could generate a hiring wave.. and really get things moving.
They could still sell/spin/whatever Eagle.. but at this point I'm inclined to consider whatever they do as evolution.

I don't understand what all the negativity is about..

Before today we knew we were probably going to get divested anyway in the future.. probably shrunken and screwed with our flying outsourced to the lowest bidder, massive furloughs and absolutely nothing we could do about it, not a good place to be if you are on the bottom half of the list.. now EVERY one of us at least has some hope for a future career at AA eventually. Even if Eagle withers away and slowly dies..

Why is that so bad?

Because we're pilots and even if we were guaranteed a position as 747 captains in 5 years there would be someone who would worry about something.

Well, I'm pretty stoked about the announcement myself. Someone already mentioned that if Eagle does get divested/spun off/etc., the likelihood that we will see any change in our day to day activities for quite some time (a year or two at least), is....well....unlikely. American is reportedly rumored to be set to announce (can that get any more vague) ....that they intend to also buy Airbus A-320's or A-319's as WELL as continuing taking delivery of the 737's. So....what does that mean to me? Hopefully, that (a) my job won't change much here at Eagle, and (b) that within a couple years, I will be at American. "A couple" might be a tad optimistic, but it's looking better today than it did yesterday....and yesterday didn't look too bad either.

Just my take.

agreed. this is some of the best news a regional pilot could hope for, and all you hear is doom and gloom. I expected it from the non-eagle guys who would be jealous, but not form the guys who just had their ships come in.

did you read what you just wrote? even if it is 9 years, a guaranteed job at mainline. becuase at your current regional, there is no guarantee, and its alot easier to get hired at eagle, than at any other major.
