What plane do you have nostalgia for?

The mighty P-3C Orion. She ain't pretty. She ain't fast. But by God I love her. Pulling G's and shooting down bad guys is something (we didn't do any of that), but our version of yankin' and bankin' at 200 feet over the water playing with the subs is pretty cool. Cooking your own lunch or taking a nap in the rack back in the galley ain't too bad either. There's something about getting 'A-time' while your sleeping that's just nice.

Flying all-nighters over Iraq, stoping in Cyprus for gas, landing at Souda Bay and then hitting the beach with the crew and duffel bag full of beers at nine in the morning is pretty cool too. Those were some of the best times of my life.

As you know, I didnt fly on the slicks, if we lost a motor it was back to Souda for a cold one. You guys could down two on purpose...

Once again, I'll take the high road...not worth it. Get a sense of humor. BTW, 9 years Navy, FFG sailor.

Perry Class ships, I take it? If so, have you seen how the Navy has de-fanged those things lately.....the ones still remaining in service?

Yeah, I was heading to shore duty (9/11/2001) while they were doing it. A small, but real reason I was getting out. More for QOL, and to pursue flying, but I was stuck with my NEC to go back to FFG's. Screw that.

Time for bed!!

At this moment anything with wings. I haven't had the time to really enjoy flying for some time, as soon as I did lost a buddy and it kind of put me off for a while. Went partner on a 2008 C-182 been in it once!!!

I just want time to fly, then I'll pick my poison.

Yeah, only shut down two once. That was kinda cool but only gave us about another half hour on station. Beers tasted just as sweet at the end of the day though.

The p3 would be truly awesome, about the coolest airplane I can think of for military machines.

The list goes something like this

A10
P3
V22
C130
HC144A

With so much stuff sticking out, and being so darn heavy we were limited to about 11 max conserve. Unless the CAOC said go refuel and come back up... Thank God no air to air refuelling. Yeah let calcapt et al; have his bad ass tomturkey 6 mos at sea with a one beer day afther 60 days of no port calls. :)

I don't think I've ever seen the P3 on someone's "truly awesome" list, except mine. That's a fine list you got going there.

Seriously dude. I love flying low its about the most fun that there is, I've probably got over 500hrs below 500'AGL (and I'm not talking about the approach to landing), and there's not that much that's cooler than trucking along low level, dodging obstacles looking for stuff. The P3 does that pretty much exclusively. Friggin' awesome.

Jayare and I were sitting here talking about a piston pounder we used to fly. I was talking about how when I see them on the ramp, I still kinda miss flying them. He didn't. Anywho, what plane do you miss flying?

Cessna 210 for me. Lots of good memories and its a fun plane to fly. (Not the same plane in said conversation.)

Lockheed P2V-5 & -7. Two turnin' & two burnin'...'nuf said!

More recently, I spent the day last week bombing around Maine with a good friend in his Cessna 195. That is the coolest single engine airplane I've flown, just slightly edging out a J-3 off a NH grass strip because the 195 has a round engine!

SD3 and the Citabria. I miss the Shorts because she was such a pretty bird and so speedy! Really, I think I'm just tired of trainees sitting in my lap and I like the pedestal between the Capt. and me. As far as nostalgia for someone elses airplane, there are some Beech Staggerwings that don't get flown enough for my taste...as well as some Wacos.

Girls with fuzzy sweaters and skirts.
Oh... flying. Don't know. I'm having fun flying different stuff every day.
