Pubnat 5/6

I think that is a little overkill

:yeahthat:I think once you have the TOL, all you really should be doing is going through the motions for the announcement you were selected under. Thinking that re-applying after you have already been selected is going to help is a mistake. I say work with what you have. Don't be a pest on the current process.

I got picked up as CTI. I'm not going to deny myself a backup if something goes wrong.

Be it shortly after you apply or during panels, they will eventually audit you out of pubnat 8 because you already have an offer. Needless to say you just wasted your time, but for poop and giggles -- go for it!

Wait...you already have....oh well...

The Air Traffic Manager at Van Nuys Airport explained to me and two other CTI students to keep applying for the PUBNATS so that our names will remain on upcoming referral lists to avoid wasting too much time if we happen to wash out. In fact he knew of two CTI students that did this at BUR and LAX, and it saved them a lot of time.

WOW.. that sux that people have to keep applying due to the likely of washing out. I'm focusing more on how fast I'm going to CPC instead.

I thought they automatically took you out of the consideration pool for new announcements once you have your TOL. Seems that would be a good way for them to prevent not selecting enough people because if they select someone that's already been selected, that person doesn't count for the total for the newer announcement.

And are you saying that those guys washed out, then were re-appointed as air traffic controllers because they applied to other announcements? I don't even begin to believe that.

Going to a level 12 right H Town? Yeah, staying focused will help.

I'm prior FAA and anybody can tell you, I had no problems working level 11 traffic bud. If I was going to ABQ or ROW no way in the world I would be thinking about washing out. But hey, that's just me! Good Luck!

n9088d, It don't make sense to me either.

Anyways, you shouldn't come into this job planning on failing by applying while you're currently working as an ATCer. It's like your already siked out. Any ATCer with years of experience will tell you that confidence is a must at this job. That whole post is fishy to me.

I searched for it, but can't find the answer.....
Does anyone know how long the PEPC will take that day? 5 hours, 6? I'm trying to arrange my flights. Thanks

My husband was literally there ALL day. He got there at 10:30 for an 11am interview and left about 7pm. All the stuff he had to do ( interview, MMPI, etc) went fast, anything that required the staff to do (EKG, background stuff) took him a lot longer than anyone else. He was seriously the last person to leave that day. I would plan for the worst, hope for the best.

You're right. I'm sure that Air Traffic Manager was lying to us. Sorry for such a ludicrous post. I'll never apply to another opening again. My apologies.

I am so glad you find your own post ludicrous, because that saves me from reminding you it is. :) The PUBNAT process as we know it has barely been around that long. About 15 months or so (I know there have been state specific announcements before they went with the "Throughout the Nation" approach). So I seriously doubt there would have been enough time for your friends to fail and be instantly rehired. Isn't it the case that if you are hired under a pubnat, you HAVE to attend OKC, regardless of background? I can't see the FAA again wasting their time with someone who washed out of their facility after only a few months and accept them under a new announcement. If the ATM saw such potential in the budding atc'er, they could recommend them to a lower facility, but even then the atc'er in training would have had to hit certain milestones. Why waste resources on someone who just doesnt get it?

I couldn't agree more. Clearly my post was irrational and down right stupid. I know that now. You all have helped me with my absolute illogical reasoning. I hope you can all find it in your hearts to forgive me for this. With your continued feedback and support, I hope to one day have the ability to post relevant and valuable information.

Fly in the day before, fly out the day after if you're on a strict timeline. You don't want to risk missing a flight or dealing with delays the day of your PEPC.

I got there at 0745 for mine and left at about 1420

Just to add my 2 cents, I was in at 7:50 AM and out by noon. So a little over 4 hours. And that included having to take a few minutes to talk with the background check people, as well as one of the doctors. The whole thing went very fast for me.

That being said, I would take swinte's advice and fly in the day before and fly out the day after. This is what I did. There's enough going on at the PEPC without having to worry about making a flight right after.

Hopefully it won't be long until he moves to the "failed MMPI" thread. In the meantime, let's take everything he has to say with a grain of salt.
