They pay very fair for the equipment compared to many ALPA positions and the are now unionized (GoJet). I love the word scab being thrown around everywhere in this industry. A wise man once told me if you treat your employees right there is no need to unionize. Obviously, no one in airline management understands this so I guess they are a necessary evil if there is abuse at your place of employment. I really don't buy into this whole thing, join a Union for pilots by pilots mumbo jumbo. If you really look into it, the Union is just there to make sure you make fair wages, get treated with the respect you need from your employeer, and cover your back. Hire a couple aviation attorneys for the union and they are as spanking fantastic as ALPA. I am sure I will be on a couple peoples ignore list because of the this post but you know what I really don't care. As for burning bridges...if some are willing to go out of their way to try an sabotage someone's career due to one's beliefs because they think they are a higher tier of pilot due to the union they work for, fine. Just take a real close look at yourself in the mirror. Pilot's are suppose to be a close knit community and over the past couple months on this site I have seen very little of that. When times get bad everyone points the finger. If your furloughed I am sorry but deal with it...I have upmost respect for you and whoever you may be supporting but there is other options that may include a "scab" company. If you got to put food on the table figure out a way of doing it beside blaming GoJets if you are a TSA pilot instead of being bitter and looking for ways to get back at these "scab" pilots.
I am by far without blame in some of these subjects. I have been unemployed for 5 months and yes I am probally going to have to grab a job outside of aviation until the market turns around. It sucks but I am just going to have to deal with it. It would be so nice to be able to afford 100 hours of multi and a CRJ course and then hop on to Eagle at some point this year but it is finicially not possible (probally a waste of money also). Should these people be denied jumpseats because they are "stealing jobs" in the industry over more qualified candiates? Should GS'ers be denied jumpseats because they are also stealing seats over more qualified canidiates? Though I don't agree with either I do not think anyone should be denied jumpseats or blackballed from the community, interviews, etc.
Finally those with the power to deny jumpseaters really take a good look at yourself and other collegues before you deny a jumpseat. Stop stroking ego's and pushing agendas through the use of a jumpseat. I don't care if you are the most hardcore ALPA nazi and a GoJets jumpseater is trying to get home on a heavy bird. If there is a way to get him/her on the plane even with more work on your end you should do so. Everyone talks about burning bridges in this industry and it is a double standard. It is ok to burn bridges with GoJet or Mesa or Jetblue pilots or any scab pilot but not the other way around. What happens when that GoJet pilot is a AA recruiter 20 years down the road and you were the ALPA whatever for your airline?
I am sure I will get the your just a 300 hour 20 year old pilot what do you know. Well to be honest I don't know everything about the industry in fact a probally know just enough to get by. However I am intelligent enough to make conclusions based on knowledge off of other people and other sources of information. Any intelligent human being can do this. Does it make them an expert absolutely not but really who is in this industry?
In conclusion, grow up people. Agenda's should not be pushed through the use of a jumpseat. Pilots are Pilots are Pilots and instead of making others lifes living hell wake up and work together with another aviator.
