Your Home Airport Complaints

The John Tune airport is only ten minutes from my house, has an ILS, clearance delivery freq direct to the Nashville TRACON and it's uncontrolled.

AUS: They closed down the airport that was a five-minute drive away and haven't honored the deal made to build a relocated replacement.
 
SNA is about the worst designed airport in the world... two parallel runways, one for big planes one for little ones, and students who always seem to come in too low for the wake turb
 
PDK has quite a few obstacles all around that can be hazardous on a low visability day. There's also that big hole right at the threshold of RW 20R... makes for some good drop action, if you are too low... I'd hate to go off the end of that thing taking off the opposite direction.

I agree that big gully approaching 20R at PDK is wild. I think there the biggest problem is that group of homeowners who want to put so many restrictions on the airport. That airport was there long before they were. Those type of people drive me insane.

The airport I live near 4A7 has an aerobatic box off the southwest end of the airport. Its rarely used and when it is used its only for a short time, less than 30 min. While back a homeowners group decided to complain it was unsafe. There subdivision had only been there about 3 or 4 yrs and the airport many more years. I think the county, FAA, and airport authority pretty much told them if you dont like it the MOVE. The box caused no threat to them.
 
Hmmm, with ORL it's really a crap shoot on the controllers. Some days you'll get the ones that rock, and some days you'll get stuck with the bitch from hell that can do no wrong and thinks all pilots are mental retards. JT, you know who I'm talkin' about. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The airport is actually a good size for the amount of traffic that comes in, although there are some days we could REALLY use a parallel runway. Not as much student traffic around since ATA shut down. Most of the flight training is either out of my flight school or CAP Flying across the field. Good choices as far as instrument approaches go, and the overlying Class B airspace isn't that much of a problem as long as you pay attention and know what you're doing.

Now the drivers I have to deal with on the road driving to and from the airport could use some improvements.....

I'd say my biggest complaint with TPF is that the runways are not long enough to accomodate the bigger corporate jets, hence limiting the amount of corporate traffic we get in there.

Sad thing is, the only way to expand is to go out into the canal and the Port Authority has already nixed that.

The other end cannot be lengthend because it abuts a neighborhood.

So, we have to be happy with the Navajo Chieftains, King Airs and Citations.... and the occasional Lear (VERY rare).

Plus it doesn't help having the little runway downwind from the big one. Gotta respect the wake turb!!!
 
Kell I agree with you about ORL. There was some really good ones and ones who swore they could operate the plane better from the tower and you could.. John that names reminds me of the time she almost caused us to have a midair of Colonial with another ATA 172
 
FWA is pretty good but they are going to begin building a new subdivision right next to the airport. They say all buyers must sign a statement that there will be jet noise before buying. I can already see it in a year or two the homeowners will be complaining about the noise...

I just hope that letter will hold up if the homeowners decide to try to close the airport or whine
 
depends how good the lawyers are.. I think it should be a simple question. Who was here first. Since the airport was the homeowner has not right to complain.
