Yet another thread about interview techniques.

I literally have no idea what the point is you're trying to make. At some point I'll try to market myself more but I kind of had and will have golden handcuffs at the old and new job. I made to much money flying air ambo and will flying the Bro also. At some point I'm sure I'll make the jump to the next level, LCC, Charter, or Cargo airline. Right now my bank account is thanking me though.

As for my metro PIC time, that crap is useless. I can't give it away. Go fly right seat in a jet. That time and networking (at an airline) is much more valuable.

The point I was trying to make was; how are you differentiating yourself? Many meet the minimum requirements, too many to hire based on "do you like beer and can I be around you for days" as the only metric.

There have been many SA227 guys that disagree with your assessment of PIC time in the turbo-tube, but the networking is what's needed indeed, but also hard to come by from this side of the industry. I agree, but the time isn't worthless if you make the right connections. I was just curious as to how you were selling it, because it is pretty easy to sell, but if you're anything like me, it's pretty easy to get a big head over as well and sell it wrongly.

I haven't had anyone tell me in the last year and a half to go get part 121, jet, or part 121 jet time... Except for FedEx.

There are a lot of guys with a lot of time that meet all sorts of competitive minimums that, well, aren't "hungry" but still demand to eat.

The taco truck ain't gonna stop near them.

Metro time is useless time when it comes to interviewing. Do not make any mistake. I learned a ton flying a death tube but would have been better off for career progression in the right seat of a RJ.

But Metro time is the best when you are playing locker room slap ass. In the small circle of feeder flying, there is no better time when you're trying to convince other feeder pilots how "marketable" you are.

Everything is marketable.

Except a negative attitude. True story.

Ok...I can hit the lottery tomorrow too...

However I got bad advice to go get TPIC...I'm trying to have others avoid that mistake.

Go get jet time.

One of my friends talks a lot about he qualatiative over and above quantitative aspects of applicants. He talks about the minimums not being all that high, primarily because it opens your applicant pool to a wide swathe of people allowing you to look for the best fit for your organization.

An example would be my last first officer. Wasn't st XJT for a huge amount of time, never uograded, but he could fly the crap out of the airplane, killer customer serine skills, analytical and could "see around the corner" look through walls like a flipping Airbender.

If I could clone him like a storm trooper and crank out a few thousand, we would rule the effing world.

What would more jet or PIC do for him? Nothing.

Ecstatic we got him. Ecstatic.

This examples just strengthens my argument that PIC Turbine isn't important but Jet time is.

My friend would say "Meh. Turbine is turbine, we do t really care" (at his shop)

In fact, one of his recommendations is interviewing in two weeks and just has Dash Trash time.

Yeah, I would say for the most part that's not true. A couple places are hiring turboprop guys, Atlas and Omni come to mind. For the most part though, they all want jet. Of course there's more to it then just the logbook but if you're asking me which time is more valuable from a hiring standpoint it's without a doubt jet time. Arguing anything else is just doing a disservice for those choosing between Amflight or XJT.

Cool passive aggressive reply Bro.

We can all talk about networking to we're blue in the face, but when it comes down to it you need certain things in the logbook at a minimum.

Nah I'm bored and I'm on gogo flying to Japan.

Internet battle is passé but I will correct a misstatement for the benefit of the bystanders that want "my friends" perspective based on what he sees "over the castle wall"

Seriously, agree with nothing I have to say, I have no thirst to convince you to change your views on the issue, but to everyone else that wants a deeper understanding, well, that's who I'm talking to.

So sum it up in a couple sentences then. What's the advice you're trying to give?

Your last FO eats lutefisk.

And likes it!

(Actually I'm pretty sure we ate wings the last time I saw him)

I had a new hire training partner during upgrade, who had almost nothing but turboprop time, yet managed to get hired at SJI. Might have been because it was in a Hawkeye though. Or he had a good attitude.
