XJT here I come!

"Either keep it to yourself"

Not likely...

"or create a separate thread entitled "How things SHOULD be in my humble opinion."

Fair enough...

"Would it REALLY hurt for you guys at or near the top to hold your tongue for a few minutes and let those of us who are on the rise enjoy what (perhaps small to you) victories we achieve??"

Getting that first job at a regional is a huge victory for anyone.

I don't think anyone at jetcareers has ever suggested that I not speak freely, or hold back, so they can feel good....until just now...

Is that really what you guys want?

I guess the only proper thing to say at this forum is "way to go....nice job".

Didn't think so. Had to take a swing at it though.

Two points:

1. No. I'm not suggesting that you not speak freely, just that you be considerate when doing so. As I stated earlier, the thread was posted so the guy could get his "attaboys". We all want `em and it feels good to get `em from your peers.

My opinion is that your comment was poorly timed. That's all.

2. Yup. Kind of what I was getting at. I think the below would have been more appropriate, but then again... it's just my opinion:

Like I said - no offense intended, so I hope none taken. Just speakin' up for the "little guy" (i.e., us low-timers).

Peace.

You can't ask that here. That would be thread hijacking...hehe.

"Here's an honest question: when do you stop being 'low time'? 1200 hrs? Or a few thousand?"

I think it depends on the situation. If you're trying to get a job at UPS. 1200 hours is low time. If you're trying to get a job as a CFI. 1200 hours would be high time. These days 1000 hours for some regionals is enough. Other regionals may very. I know stated minimums are one thing and the average in the new hire class is often much higher.

For me. To have a jet type and be a large jet PIC, you should have at least 500 hours in the right seat of that type or something similar.

[/ QUOTE ]3000-4000 TT. Or any time you change aircraft types. DC-9 to 737, Citation VII to Citation X, etc.
Per part 135 you are low mins until 100 in type.
Per our company, you are low time in type until you have approx 250 in type. Of course it takes 2500 tt just to get the interview.

Keep in mind, in the 121 and 135 worlds, it's not unusual to fly 1000 hours per year. So someone with only 1200 is really, as Doug would say, a n00b. So when someone gets 3-4000 hours, you know they have at least a few years of "real world" flying.

Geez. I'm gone two weeks and a cat fight breaks out. Congrats on getting hired at XJT and welcome to the team. As far as low time pilots go, I'll stay out of that arguement for now. Been in it way too many times in the past few months......

Naw - no cat fight. At least not from my end. As far as I was concerned, the exchange was completely un-cat-fight-ish.

I'm with R2F, just give the guy his well earned congrats and let him be happy. All this bitching and moaning about people getting type ratings with such low time is poorly timed and should be in a seperate post because to be quite honest, whether or not this is what you were trying to do, it looks like you're trying to belittle his accomplishment. Again, not saying that was your intent, but that's what you are doing.
