Will Delta Pilot's strike?

I had an interesting conversation about the Delta situation today. I ran into an old boss of mine whose husband happens to be a higher up at Delta. To make a long story short she told me management is hoping the pilots strike. She told me her husband says that Delta feels they will have no problem getting people to cross the picket line. And in the end it will be a replay of the whole Continental situation where all the scabs were integrated back into union and given real seniority numbers.

This whole statement smells fishy: A) There is no possibility that Delta management would welcome a strike and B) if they did (welcome a strike) they would not care at all whether working pilots were "integrated back into the union and given real seniority numbers."

My guess is this guy is just "higher up" enough to have an opinion but no real knowledge.

But if Delta goes chapter 7, like I'm sure some Delta pilots are well willing to do, then Omar loses his job at Skywest. Additionally, the pay rates that Delta is able to uphold will trickle down to him. You're a fan of trickle down economics, right? Perfect example. He has a stake.

that's what I thought... it doesn't make any sense.. why would delta execs even care whether or not scabs are reintegrated? is this a personal position perhaps?

the only reason i could see delta execs welcoming a strike is if they have the bk judge in their hands.. knowing she's gonna say "oh hell, no you don't" type thing (or even the pres)...in which case, delta execs would get what they're looking for.

Tell your friend to get a clue and to put down the crack pipe.

"My original problem wasn't with you having an opinion and still isn't. It's with your suggestion that groups that don't strike over paycuts in a bankruptcy are "cavers who don't stand up for what they think is right."

My general feeling isn't anger towards one group. I'm just upset to see our industry as a whole going down the tube. One pilot group after the other, saying yes to anything. When one group finally sticks up for what they beleive in, I'm proud to see that.

Like I said before, I may not be directly effected right away by a possible shut down of Delta if they were to strike, what do you think would happen eventually if Delta shut down? Would Skywest be able to support 2200 pilots? I guarantee 50% of its work for would be sent home the next day. You know we are tied into Delta directly whether we like it or not.

Come on Omar. With all due respect. You got NOTHING to say to this guy if that's your arguement. The Skywest pilot group is hardly setting the standard when it comes to pilot groups saying NO to management. Get a grip....

That's one reason the SkyWest pilots need to get SOMEBODY--ALPA, Teamsters, whoever--on the property ASAP. Something tells me that refusing to fly struck work without a union to back you up will get you fired post-haste.

I didn't mean to yell at you, Omar. Was in a bad mood cause jetcareers has been down so long. I'm spending $452 from my ticket bank to fly from PSP to LAX on Skywest. Whooo Hoooo.

My company thinks they are saving money by using a corporate travel agency. I don't think so....
