Most everyone I know who got out of the mil and flies civilian is either SWA, Delta, FEDEX or (a couple) UPS. How are the others in terms of QOL?

Were those moves due to base closures, or city preferences?

Michigan for the regional airline base DTW. That's one move. Then hired at LCC based at SFO and moved to SFO. Again, the whole live in base thing. That's two. Then NYC turned from a pseudo (ALF) base into a real base. This one you could call preference move to NJ. Rented initially for one year, moved again in NJ once I bought my current place. I'm now back in the same area I was in the mid 90s.

Now the critics will say, move to SEA, Alaska would never close that. Probably true... Until 5 years from now and then a JetBlue merger happens and suddenly JFK is the 2nd biggest hub of the combined airline.

So where do you draw the line and say enough to moving?

Like I said, circumstantial.
My QOL in base is orders of magnitude higher than my commuting coworkers. My nights away from home last month - 6. The commuters - probably 16-19.
I will not take a job that I can't move to my base. I plain refuse to commute by anything but car.... or maybe GA, which means car is possible. That said I'd maybe do it for up to a year for the right job if it wasn't possible to live there (NYC).

You are arguing about living in base with a guy that lives in base.
