Where are all the "FEBOTS" heading?

ALL ARTCC's are old/decrepit/nasty and a health hazard. ZTL ARTCC has had a history of sickness due to asbestos. I was there a few months ago and you could see black moldy tiles, broken tiles, water stained area from where the roof leaks. The roof leaks sooooooooo bad that controllers have had to use umbrellas WHILE they work traffic.

Good Luck. cough.cough.

If its in that bad of shape, maybe someone at the FAA will get wise and move the whole operation out of Hampton entirely. Clayton and Henry Counties aren't exactly the best places to live around Atlanta, particularly for anyone trying to raise a family. Clayton County schools SUCK (one of the biggest reasons we moved out in the early 90s) and Henry isn't much better, not to mention the crime rates and foreclosure rates in those two counties don't give you a nice warm fuzzy feeling either. That's one of the reasons why I'm going to make Terminal my first choice for GA, I'd really prefer to work in PTC or Atlanta Tower just for the reasons I stated above.

I think the Atlanta ARTCC building has been there since at least the mid to late 70s. I'm 30 now, and I remember it being there when I was 5-6 years old. Its probably creeping up on 35-40 years old as well.

I'm headed to ZKC in Olathe, KS.... 3 miles from my house!!

:sarcasm:
I wonder how much they're going to give me for moving expenses so that I can move back out of my Mother's house?
:sarcasm:

I don't think I will mind working in Hampton, but I'm definitely going to live in Fayette County. I would never even consider Clayton or Henry Counties and I'm only slightly open to the prospect of east Coweta County.

Coweta County still isn't bad. That's where we ended up moving after leaving Jonesboro and I went to high school there. NE Coweta, right around Tyrone and down to the Hwy 34/54 area is still pretty nice. I can't really speak to the rest of the county since I haven't lived down there in about 7-8 years now. You'd have to cut through alot of back roads that are probably getting fairly clogged with traffic to get to/from Coweta County to Hampton though. If you do end up in Fayette County, I'd steer clear of the northern part of the county. South of Hwy 54 is probably still the "safe" part of the county to live in, considering schools, property values, etc. I guess it depends on if you plan on buying a home down that way or if you're just going to be an apartment dweller.

The biggest minus to Hampton for me is that my wife's job is up around Cumberland Mall so we're probably going to stay up in the Cobb Co area for the immediate future even if I land a job as an ATC. It is much easier for me to get to/from here to PTC or the Atlanta Airport than it is to get to Hampton.

Yeah, if I were going to the ATCT or TRACON then I wouldn't have had to move, but Hampton is even further away so unless I want an hour and a half commute one-way, five days a week we will have to move. I do like Fayette County south of 54 and northern parts of PTC (Kedron). I've also looked in Tyrone and parts of Sharpsburg. Any thoughts on Fayetteville? I just started looking over there recently and don't know too much about that area yet.

ZJX... anyone know how the facility is from experience? Anyone heading to Jacksonville?

I've been there before, that is where I had my Interview actually. Its located in Hilliard, Florida (the middle of nowhere in a town with only one streetlight). The center looked OK though, my Interviewer was pretty nice and he showed me around the facility when we were done.

When was your PEPC and have you heard anything about whether your August 19th class is full?

My process has consisted of a long wait actually. I applied to several of the posts last summer, had my Interview late October, and TOL in December. 7 Months later and I hear I'm headed to OKC and then Albuquerque ARTCC.

As for the class on August 19th, I don't know.

Sharpsburg covers a pretty large area, the town itself is out on Ga 16/154 out in the middle of nowhere. I lived in Canongate when I was in high school (I went to East Coweta) and we had a Sharpsburg mailing address, but we were closer to Palmetto and Tyrone.

I'd just stay clear of the north part of Fayetteville, towards Tyrone, PTC and Senoia should still be OK as far as I know. My wife has a college friend that lives just east of "downtown" Fayetteville and its still nice. If you have a family or are going to have one, I don't know what the schools are like over there though, I've been away from there too long now. I moved up to Cobb County from Newnan about 7 years ago.

Just to sum it up, south Fayette and Eastern Coweta would probably be good choices should you work in Hampton. There are a few back roads you can take from either location to be in Hampton in about 25-35 minutes from the PTC/Coweta County area.

If you need any more info, PM me and I'll see what I can dredge up. That whole area is my old stomping ground.

Got my TOL yesterday for Boston Tower with an academy start date of 9/08!!
For those who have not done the PEPC yet...relax...you have nothing to worry about. If you have made it this far, you should have no problem with the interview. All the interviewers are very nice and WANT you to succeed. You will be nervous, that is normal, but just remember...EVERYONE passes the interview. And as soon as the interview is over (30 min or so) the rest of the day is painless...at that point you HAVE the job just as long as all rest checks out (medical, background, psych, etc). If something doesn't check out, you will have an opportunity to explain or clarify.
The best advice I can give is to read the interview questions posted at the top of this forum and think of an example/answer for each (any answer that sounds halfway intelligent will do) before you get there.

Good luck to everyone. See you all in OKC!!

Congrats on getting Boston! Very cool. Are you happy you got that rather than Bedford?

I think I will be happier in the long run at BOS, but it would have been nice to start at a lower facility. I think the biggest downer is that BOS is 24hrs and BED closes nightly. But, I am still very excited and look forward to starting.

----Funny story.
As I was heading into the PEPC yesterday there was a guy behind me that asked what state I was selected for. I told him that I wanted RI and got selected for MA. He said that he wanted MA and got RI:banghead:. So, I guess we will be passing each other on 95 on the way to work:).

Heading to Cleveland center, cant wait, anyone else going to cleveland send me a message, wanna see if anyone knows where they are gonna be living or if they know a good spot out there

I live in Tyrone, have for 10 years, and i can tell you that the population has doubled in the last four. What was once a small quaint town look just like Fayetteville and Peachtree City. Highway 74 in PTC, once sleepy, is being widened to 6 lanes in some areas. Getting to Atlanta ARTCC from the Fayetteville, PTC area will now take about 45+ minutes.

Totally overpopulated now...and come on folks use your freaking turn signals..it's not a sign of weakness..damn Southerners.
