What have you done to further your career today?

I actually had a friend in his late 20's text me he is interested in "a pilot career". Like, I want to have a job as a pilot. In spite of my history here with these sort of things I'm at loss what to say. No passion for flying. Just thinks it would be a good job. He would think 40k a year is great money. No degree or interest in that. I was going to send him to Alaska...

Please don't. For the love of god, please get him to do -anything else-.

I didn't do anything today but like others I did jog and ride my bike. But hey, I am done, stick a fork in it after 42 years and 16K+ hours. I can relate to you guys as it seems like yesterday when my real full time job was writing resumes on a Selectic typewriter, one of the few that had a correction tape. I wouldn't leave the house until the mailman came. At midnight I would go to the airport and give the inbound Falcon FedEx crew my resume. There was no Derg and JetCareers....just FAPA and Kit Darby/Louis Smith. We passed around How to Dress for Success and How to Beat the MMPI Test. You were considered too old at 31. Turned down by two majors. Why? Who knows. Years later, offered a job by two other majors; one was to hire me as a strike replacement and the other, well it was my last choice (as if I had a choice) which in the end was the best of the four. Now I receive a retirement check from my first choice that turned me down 35 years ago. Go figure.

Reading your stories brings back many memories and the struggles we all go through to obtain this elusive but rewarding job. Keep at it guys, it's worth the effort.

I went to El Pollo Loco for a torta, then I sat on the couch contemplating Lears. I could do more, but nobody wants to pay me for it. After deep thought my opinion is the Lear 60 and 28 are the best. Sad what happened to the last real one (60). 45 is a nice airplane, but it's more Global than it is Lear.

What a great topic! Today and yesterday I flew 11.9 hours in a Cessna 152 Solo XC from KWVL in Maine to KFDK in MD and back. On the way back I flew up the Hudson on quite possibly my favorite flight thus far. I'm now at 21.1 hours Airplane and 253.3 TT.

Oh, and I also networked my way into a possible free CFI training through the flight school I'm doing my CSEL at. It's been a good day for furthering my career.

Went to the FSDO and got the SOE limitation dropped from my type rating.
Then flew to KBHB, dropped pax, and deadheaded home with fresh Maine blueberry pie for the girls.
This job is frickin' wonderful.

Unfortunately I was a bit lazy today. I did some cramming for the ATP written that I'm taking tomorrow morning. But other that that it's relaxing a bit. With some last minute cramming. In other words I'm being lazy.

Tomorrow I'm going to hit very hard. At 6:00 am I'm going grabbing caffeine from a local coffee joint and do some last second cramming whilst enjoying my morning drive. Then I'm going to rip asunder my ATP written and pray I don't end up with any thing less than a 96. After that I have some ground school lined up to see where my weak areas are with this CFI ticket I want so badly. After learning my weaknesses I'll go to Havana Garage in KOMA read up on the weak points while enjoying a cigar.

Oh and I guess get airfare for some event in Vegas...
