What do you all do to avoid getting sick?

I only seem to get sick during holidays and certain events such as bdays and the Super Bowl.

but in all seriousness, cant you get in trouble with the Feds if u work, while you are sick?

I megadose on Vitamin C chewables at the first sign of a cold. Had the first signs of a cold a couple of weeks ago, the sneezing all day, sore throat, was definitely going to be sick.

I immediately took about 5 grams of Vitamin C, and the next morning I felt normal. I continued to take the high dose of 3-5 grams the rest of the week, and weened off again.

Usually, I haven't been let down by it. I'm a believer in Vitamin C.

Zicam is also good, but be careful. People have lost their sense of smell using the spray version. Try the chewables.

BTW, if you want a good tasting Vit.C tab, try anything with Acerola. There is one by CVS pharmacy brand with Acerola, 500mg. Tastes better than candy.

I think a positive attitude helps one avoid getting sick.

And Kris is pretty good at "thinking" herself out of a cold when one is coming on. Seems to work.

I drink plenty of water and take a multivitamin. Also, I've been rinsing my nose out w/ saline solution for contacts. Seems to work really well, since I haven't been sick in ages! :)

i avoid getting sick by taking a multivitamin, drinking OJ, using the company headset and *not* using alcohol wipes.

i figure i'm not only keeping my immune system strong (vitamins, rest, etc) but i'm also giving it plenty of practice.

I wear a surgeon's mask when I'm on the road. People look at me kind of funny when I'm in the terminal.

Actually, the Japanese do that a lot whenever they get sick. They do it because it allows them to still be productive without having to worry about getting others sick. Takes a little getting used to seeing somebody wearing them out in public, but after a while you don't even notice.

Duuude, there was an Oprah show about that! Dr. Oz was showing everyone how to use a neti pot to clear the sinus cavity.

....not that I watch Oprah on a regular basis or anything. :)

No way......I don't watch Oprah. Maybe I'm on to something here. :) What the heck is a "neti pot"?

Nothing to do except build your immune system. Studies have shown that kids that played in dirt, etc had amazing immune systems and were sick far less then kids whose mothers were always disinfecting everything. Why? Because they were constantly exposed to a little of this and a little of that and were able to build up the immune system slowly.

I wash my hands a lot, use liberal amounts of hand sanitizer and work hard not to rub my eyes after I touch foreign objects.

It may or it may not work for you.

I'm just a lucky SOB as far as getting sick is concerned. I haven't been on antibiotics since 1998. I wasn't sick at all in 2006 (except for when I drank too much). I got a little bit of a cold a couple months back but airborne (sp?) chased it away.

Something tells me that if a "revolutionary" new medicine that came out just a few years ago causes people to lose one of their five senses, there's something wrong. I avoid the stuff completely. Since medicine is such a major industry, people should always be very careful about what they take. Chances are that even the FDA is controlled by the industry to some extent. This would explain why harmful new drugs take only years to be released to the mainstream market, but usually take decades to be taken off store shelves.

I think there's actually a bit of truth to that. Obviously, basic hygiene (hand washing after using the bathroom, before eating, and so one) are important, but we've managed to take it to the extreme (big surprise, there...). Antibacterial soaps, hand sanitizers... it's like any germ out there will kill you.

We end up like a "bubble boy", with weakling immune systems! :)

Having said that, I DO agree with Kristie--if yer sick, STAY HOME! If you try to "gut it out," before you know it, your whole pilot force will be sick.

Don't use the cotton swab Q-tip thingies. It comes in pill form, too. Didn't think it'd been on the market long enough to determine that yet....

I have been using zicam since 1999 when I was working as a computer tech in a call center. The chew-ables and disolvables are the best in my opinion. I stopped using the nasal spray when they came out with a mouth spray.

The down side to all of those is make sure you have food on your stomach or you'll get a stomach ache from hell.
