"We've got 8000 resumes on file!"

This is what happens when you are bored on reserve.

No pilot shortage just short pilots.

FRY.JPG

Honestly though, there will be a lot of movement, and I'm sure there will be a few companies that won't be able to staff up because their business model is dependent upon cheap labor ... (looking at you Endeavor). However, I wouldn't call that or what happened in '06-'08 as a shortage either. Just tons of movement and poorly prepared companies looking like suckers.

Does anyone else think of a pilot shortage as something more than just, "OMGZ! Our class size was 50 and we've only got 38! Hide Yo' Kids! Hide Yo' Wife! Dey Raping EVERYONE in Here!"

Airline Baggage Fees and Ancillary Fees Are Not Going Away

Pilots earn less than airport window washers

Airlines oppose law increasing pilot flight hours

Decision to make......

The infamous "pilot shortage" again...

You certainly came full circle @mshunter. What happened to the "I'll not an airline pilot", "I'm not a 121 guy" stuff? Certainly a change as well from sitting in class in Sioux Falls SD.

Life changes, peoples circumstances change, and opinions change. I loved my job flying the Metro. When I left that job though, it wasn't a difficult decision to make at all. My daughter was only 6 months old, and I was in the middle of a divorce. It was a rough few years preceding that as well. Bit the main reason I came to this side was I knew I would get a schedule, and not have to deal with being off and something popping up on me. Now that I'm here, it isn't all that bad. Sure, first year pay really sucks! But if I can get over that hump, I think I'll be on "the dark side" for a while. It's really easy here. All the thinking is done foe you, and you just make sure that it's correct.

So I was sitting in the smoking area at De-toilet the other day and was listening to a few guys talk about how many resumes they have on file from two different major airlines. They were talking about the (DOOOOOM!!!!) pilot shortage.

"We've got 8000 resumes on file at our company, [Major airline] has 8000, and [Cargo airline] has 8500! That's over 24000 resumes! There isn't a lack of pilots out there!"

I took a last puff on my smoke, looked at them and said "You guys do realize that that's mostly the same 8000 guys resumes at all those companies, right?"

They looked puzzled. Stumped almost, like "that can't be!" I walked back to the KCM line and went on with my day, not really caring either way.

Do you think I'm right?

I'm not sure how it's quite legal and squared away, but Alaska and Horizon require you to be tobacco-free.

Having spent my first few days as an airline pilot wedged into an ERJ with a guy who smoked, it's something I am in favor of.

I'm with ya. I wouldn't really call it a shortage until we start seeing cradle to grave programs at all of the legacies and maybe even paid initial flight training. As long as warm bodies with the mins keep showing up at current pay rates I won't count it as a shortage.

Perhaps you meant to post in the "ask some random person on the internet about their opinions regarding your personal health choices" thread. Because I don't see any indication here that your opinion was requested.

Perhaps this post deserved the same comment as well?

I make an effort for those who don't complain to have nothing to complain about. Those that do....

I'd wager a guess that the applicants for airlines using Airline Apps would all meet the minimums. Why would you pay $60 a year to have an app in at United if you only have 900 hours?

You wouldn't

You would be a cheap Focker like myself and do each individual airline application separately for FREE!!!

Giggity Giggity Goo!!!!!!!!!!
