UPS SUX

Just the other morning, very early morning, I had to listen to about 10 rampers yack about how they were going to "file" on this and that over five minutes here and there. Wish I could file for "this or that." I'm gonna file on that #@#%@# since I had to do 8 cans and #$#$ did 5 cans, on and on ad nauseum. This is their typical operation. Throw 10 monkeys into a box, introduce some money and paint it brown, shake really hard and somehow it makes it profitable.

So, why don't you guys break the code and tell me why it's so bad flying UPS feeders?

Get yourself 1200 hours, work for a feeder then brake the code of silence yourself, see how long you live......

Most of the UPS pilots I have talked to hate it. 2nd year FO pays $143 an hour, captains are making 6 figures times two and still hate it. Now imagine you make you make a fraction of what a second year FO makes spend twice as many days on the road, and don't have the UPS benefits or protection of a union.

And the real reason being a feeder sucks is:

Wow! I guess money really IS everything for those UPS pilots to put up with such abominable working conditions.

After a pilot looked at me as if I had kicked his daughter and yelled, "It expletive sucks", I decided to cancel the polling.

I flew my fast feeder to SAT recently and there were three smaller fast feeders (757) plus some itty bitty feeders (1900, Metro) waiting for us. I've been living the fast feeder lifestyle for over 10 yrs.

If UPS sux so bad, how many of you would not work there?

No longer interested.
It is one of the top 3 in pay nowadays and I used to think it would be a good place to work. Now I realize I don't really like working on the back side of the clock. It takes a day or so to recover on your days off then a day to try to rest for an upcoming week of work. I wouldn't mind for a flight or a week, but not over the course of a career. However if Fedex were to call me out of the blue I would reconsider. Besides not really wanting to work night, one of my biggest considerations in my search for my next job is a company where the average employee likes their job. I know there are some out there.

Good luck with your quest of finding a friendly place to work that's also gives YOU a stable and profitable career. They are few and far between.

The prestige for one. Jet time for another.

Of the 50 or so guys I know at FedEx, and the countless others I have talked to when jumpseating, I have never come across one who didn't love it there...

You make it sound like getting into UPS is easy. Know someone willing to walk my resume in? That is the only way I know of to get looked at at this point.

Don't think there's any way to get looked at at this point...think they just started recalls. But if what I've been told is accurate, even when they're hiring having your resume walked in will do you no good. They interview based on a computer score. Once you get an interview, knowing someone can help, but it will not get you in the door. Or so I've been told by a couple of people I know who work there and who'd better be telling the truth! ;)

Rings true to me, I used to be one of those lazy union swine kicking boxes, and they were rather...extreme about nepotism and related matters. Once bitten, etc, I'd imagine.

Ahhh....a have two buddies at UPS I helped get interviews via a personal recommendation. Back when we were hiring, there was an online way to recommend someone. One guy was Horizon and one guy was Mesa. Later on, you needed heavy overwater time to get looked at as new hires were going to the 747-400 in ANC (rumor was the FAA said it was a good idea if we didn't want the ANC operation to be extra scrutinized). A recommendation wouldn't get you hired but it would help you get an interview. In fact, it's very rare to talk to someone who got hired at UPS without a personal recommendation (I'm one though, but that was back in the day). What will the future hold? Hard to say. We will eventually hire. It will be very competitive.

It would be more accurate to say knowing someone helps you get the interview but once in the interview, it won't help you get the job.

We have recalled six of 103 with an effective date in December. Also have an LOA where you can bid on reduced lines or a two month leave without pay. This allows the company to recall where they need bodies (ANC) and save a dime where they don't. In my seat and base there was only one reduced line and one leave without pay but this was over peak. Hopefully later there will be more opportunities to not work for those who want the time off and more recalls for those furloughed.
