Update: UPS flight dispatchers are asking to be paid like counterparts at Delta, American

I want to just mention, that one reason I see it necessary to even have a union, is that this industry most likely won't experience traditional "market forces" that others will. There is much less transferability in a dispatchers skill set than other industries and occupations, and less opportunity to move around (partially due to unions themselves, and seniority based pay, etc.) so the fact that COL doesn't match up with the wages paid at particular carriers, in my opinion, should be addressed. I for one think COL should be taken into account. We can't vote with our feet very easily, that's why we have unions... And before anyone comes back with any "should isn't how the real world works", this is true, and that's why labor strikes began in the first place.

This is the thread that never ends, it just goes on and on, my friends...

Every question regarding pension/pay/major vs. cargo has already been well covered at this point IMO. You are of course free to disagree, but please read the whole thread first. (Or not. I’m not the boss of you.)

Looking at the UPS numbers, I see that the $ is at the lower end of the spectrum, but that is counterbalanced by their pension.

Not an accurate assessment. Again, not taking all information into consideration to make such a bold assertion. Opinion does not equate to fact.

Ground side meaning drivers and dispatchers and airside being pilots?

Yes, the drivers. Dispatch is not part of that. There are 3 separate groups in negotiations right now, all who have voted unanimously to strike. Google will tell you everything you wish to know [emoji4]

Does the RLA define what "good faith negotiations" are? Or could brown just say "oh we are still conducting negotiations" just to delay the NMB, cooldown, and strike?

Yeah, I’d love for the next comment to be some positive news of us ratifying a new leading contract! But the months and years just keep on passing us by...

I support private sector unions but certainly not public sector unions.
With that being said COL will never be addressed. No one is forcing anyone to work for any carrier or live in a particular location.

Nobody is saying they need it, people are saying they deserve it. I would want something I deserve. Would you say sports stars need to make $40,000,000 rather than $30,000,000? No. But if the owners are making a billion dollars a year from said sports stars they would deserve a bigger chunk of the revenue they themselves are generating for the top.

It's not about need or want, it's about fairness.
Which is the exactly what socialists would say. Life’s not fair and you deserve nothing. You are a contracted employee. You deserve only what has been agreed to nothing more.

Wow ATLANTA... are you getting paid just enough to survive? And even if you are do you not WANT and feel like you NEED more money then just enough to survive?
Ridiculous lol
What’s ridiculous is the notion that you deserve anything! Grow up. Work hard and earn what you get.

LOL! Let's all accept burger flipping wages then cuz that's enough to survive.[/QUOTE
Right because that’s what I stated. Maybe you should take the time to understand how economic forces work. Just because you want something does not entitle you to it or even mean you are worth that.

How much money does an athlete make that team and owner? The owner thinks that athlete is worth that therefore they pay it. You can stomp around and throw a tantrum about what you think you deserve but if your employer does not believe you are worth what you are asking for then you are out of luck! Sorry life’s not fair

@Atlanta
Anyone who disagrees with you doesn't understand economics and is automatically a far left loyal Bernie Sanders follower, right? Got it. So tell us, what exactly are you worth to your employer? More than the rest of us I'm sure.

I've seen some of the numbers. On some flights I save the company more by tankering fuel than they pay me per day. Add up everything that is saved in a day and I bet they could easily cover my pay for a week.

And this is where unions come in. Do you think the majors pay their topped out dxers $200,000/yr out of the kindness of their hearts? And who said anything about throwing tantrums? Working professionals negotiating higher pay is not my definition of a tantrum. Why don't you opt out of your union and let the company pay you what they think you're worth? Put your $16/hr where your mouth is.
