United gets rid of bonuses for lottery giveaways. ..

You know, United dropped their discount to the NRA, but I don’t see everyone jumping in them for doing it. They even did it before Delta did.

Bad things happen when people attack Untied.

4. "It occurred to me and my wife that this is terribly unfair to single parents. ... Imagine your child coming home sick from school, no fault of your own. You are faced with calling in sick thus losing your 'chance' at a bonus or leaving your child/children home alone to care for themselves. What a terrible situation United has put that person in." --First Officer - B-767/B-757

If United wanted you to have kids, they would've issued them to you.

Why is this so hard of a concept for propel to understand.

Because companies spend multiple millions of dollars per year to marketing companies to convince us otherwise, and some of them are pretty convincing.

Nope. Like usual United just copied Delta.

Delta is reaching out to the NRA to let them know we will be ending their contract for discounted rates through our group travel program. We will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from their website.

United is notifying the NRA that we will no longer offer a discounted rate to their annual meeting and we are asking that the NRA remove our information from their website.

True. I suppose most people just think of United as a northern airline, so it’s expected behavior. An airline from Chicago hating the NRA is no big news. Delta, on the other hand, is generally thought of as a southern company, so we expect better of them on this sort of thing.

If my prospects of receiving a bonus depended on a lottery I would have zero motivation to put forth any extra effort.

Turning the bonus pool into a lottery feeds American’s growing “get ahead by winning it big” mentality. Too many are looking to win it big through a lawsuit, PowerBall, attending a talk show (Ellen or Oprah). Why work hard or think hard when I stand a chance of getting a big fat check while sitting on my butt?

United is led by morons.

Just because you expect them to follow on your principles doesn't mean they're "better."

Profit sharing is a funny thing. There are people that connect pushing just a little bit harder and being rewarded for it, and others who see it as an entitlement because boats are expensive and their spouse ran up their credit card bill.

Meh. Ending a rarely utilized (very very very rarely) small discount to an organization that has transformed from a respectable advocacy group into a Breitbart propaganda machine is fine with me. I mean, you'd think Ed Bastian himself is coming for your guns based on some of the reaction to this.

Dear United colleagues,
Since announcing our planned changes to the quarterly operations incentive program, we have listened carefully to the feedback and concerns you've expressed.
Our intention was to introduce a better, more exciting program, but we misjudged how these changes would be received by many of you.
So, we are pressing the pause button on these changes to review your feedback and consider the right way to move ahead. We will be reaching out to work groups across the company, and the changes we make will better reflect your feedback.
Appreciatively,
Scott

Why didn't they just end it quietly and with no public statement about it? Since hardly anyone was using it anyway. No one would've noticed and there likely wouldn't have been any controversy at all.

That they felt compelled to make a public statement about it, made it political.

This is what I brought up in another thread. I think if they just ended it quietly and Ed didn’t go on Twitter, this wouldn’t have been an issue at all. Everyone was jumping on the anti-NRA bandwagon and he thought it was a good idea too.

I think because many companies including airlines we’re being asked about their relationship w the NRA.

In the past few years, the brands you choose to patronize seem to be separated from what they actually do, and transformed into an extended representation of WHO YOU ARE. Like, "I'm an APPLE guy, their image is my lifestyle." Rather than, "I need a device that plays music and makes calls." It has extended into the political realm, because the companies have brought us there, but the politicians have too.

It was only a short time ago that I could be spit on because I enjoy Chic-fil-a...

Then their best answer would have been something similar to FedEx's.
Let's boycott FedEx!!!*

*5 mins later, they make an order from Amazon, which is delivered by FedEx.

I thought FedEx handled it nicely, and guess what? Hardly anyone is talking about FedEx. Although to be fair, nobody would have been talking about Delta if a politician hadn't used it for political gain. Although to be fair part deux, Delta did make it fair game by making it political.
